hauling scooter

I plan to carry a scooter on my 2551. The carrier( veser haul) will weigh about 87 lbs. Looking at a vespa 150 (243 lbs) or a 250 weighing 325 lbs. Has anyone had experience with one. Any advice appreciated.

I'm interested in this topic also. I tried to convince John a class b with a scooter was the way to go when we first geared up. We quickly decided the b wasn't going to do it for us and our Phoenix has been perfect. Towing the Subaru with a car top carrier works well for our full time travels but once we settle somewhere again the scooter would be an awesome choice... as long as I get to drive.

Campmuch, are you looking for feedback on:
- hitch weight capabilities of the Phoenix to haul a scooter
- effect of that weight hanging off the hitch (does it lower the back end, affect the drive, etc.)
- traveling with only a scooter as a secondary vehicle while in camp
- access issues with the rear bin when mounting something on the hitch

I'm pretty sure people on the forum can help out with these even if they don't have a cool scooter. Some carry a motorcycle, many have cargo boxes and/or bicycles.

If you do get a Vespa, please post pictures both on and off the Phoenix.

If you were shopping for a trailer, I would recommend one with regular size tires so you wouldn't need to worry about the weight and RPM of the tires & wheels. I say this because I grew up with a pop-up camper with small wheels & tires. My dad had a tire shred on him once or twice during our 4-week long summer trips. He carried two spare tires, sometimes going through both and having to buy a new spare while on the trip.

The tiniest of enclosed U-Haul trailers seem ideal. One person can easy handle them empty. I think they might be equipped with surge brakes too. I would think they could be bought from the manufacture for U-Haul.

I just loaded a 250 vespa on my pc and the front raised 1/4'' and the rear dropped 1/4'' . I was surprised with 325 lbs. Think I am in good shape except I am having back problems and may not need to keep riding scooters.

Sorry to just be posting. I've been traveling and not visiting the forum.
I have a Vespa 200GT (about 325#) on the back of my 2350. Dan's Hitch in Elkhart installed a hydraulic lift, so I can load/unload by myself. They put in two extra hitch receivers. After the installation, it rode lower in the back, so I had "spring leaves" added. Now it's level and works great! It's a great way to travel and not need to tow.

I carried a Honda Helix scooter on a carrier across the back of other motor homes but not my current PC, no problems, lots of fun, no trailer to worry about, but I was younger and stronger then. The idea is a good one.
