Safety Recalls
« on: June 01, 2015, 05:55:34 pm »
When checking to see if our cars or the PC are being recalled for the Takata airbags I found a very useful site.  This site is maintained by the NHTSA and provides safety recall information by Year, Make and Model or by VIN.

You can check for recalls by VIN at https://vinrcl.safercar.gov/vin/.  When you use this method they require an anti spam number in the second box that they give you so to prevent spam.

Or you can check for recalls by Year, Make and Model at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchSafetyIssues.  This also covers recalls for Child Restraints, Tires and Equipment.

Barry-Sue:
Thanks for the info.  I have been warned by my dealer to not draw any conclusion yet as to if any/all vehicles are included in the recall since the manufacturers are still uploading the data
and it still may be weeks before they know what vehicles are involved or not.  The word now is some that all ready been recalled may have to be recalled again since the replaced inflators are not correct!

I couldn't understand what the airbag problem was.  I recently learned for my own curiosity that the explosive material inside would become more explosive with humidity.  The explosion becomes so strong that the airbag housing breaks apart, turning into a grenade of flying shrapnel.

That is basically correct Ron...to much force for the canister itself.  The next mega issue will be the company (Takata) will go bankrupt!
