Rear Air not working
« on: June 01, 2015, 12:27:55 pm »
Hello,
We are new to this board but so excited, we purchased a 2014 2910D and just love it.  It has the 50 amp option with the rear air and I'm wondering if anyone knows if they are wired to only work when you are plugged in? l know you can't run both AC's on the generator but I thought you should be able to run either or on it, but the rear air won't come on when running the generator but worked fine when it was plugged in to a power line.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Loving our PC!

I would be interested in what you find out about it. We just recently picked up our 2015 2910d and it has the same option. We haven't even tried the rear unit.

Just got off the phone with Kermit and the coaches are wired such that the rear air cannot run off the generator.  Both ac's can run when plugged in, but only the front ac can run off the generator.  Hope this helps anyone else out there with this option!

I'm curious, what size generator comes with the 2910 ?  Would a larger Generator handle both?

Joseph      I had a 7kw in a 5th wheel. It powered both the front and rear AC. I do not thank there is space for a 7000 watt unit where the 4kw is.  JIM JAS

I agree with you.  I think the narrow body and lowest possible floor of all PCs limits the size of the generator.

That would make sense.  Thanks.

I wish mine had a larger AC unit. I'm not sure if they can install a higher output unit with the 30 amp service I have however when I travel through the area of the factory I need to look into it.  The units they install are a on the weak side.

We had a larger A/C unit installed when our 2552 was built.  Opted for the Coleman Mach8 which has a low profile and increased capacity (15,000 btu vs. 13,500 btu). We also opted for the standard A/C, not the heat pump version.  Although we do have 50 amp service on our rig the unit will run off the standard PC generator.  If you intend on researching this unit Coleman has them built by Airxcel, so a search on both may help.

A so called 50 amp circuit is actually 2 circuits.  In an RV's case, one leg is 20 amp and the other leg is a separate 30 amp circuit.   The generator only feeds the 30 amp leg.  The 20 amp leg is only powered by when plugged into a proper 50 power pedestal.  The rear air conditioner is powered only by that 20 amp circuit...thus will only work when plugged into shore piwer.

Don

My understanding of the 50AMP RV service is a little different.  I think a RV electric service pedestal actually provides a RV with two 50AMP phases.  This means that the RV would actually receive a total of 100AMP or about 12,000 watts.

Barry,
You are right about the 100 Amps on the 50 Amp shore power, If I remember right I looked at the circuit for the Generator and is not hooked up to the second let of the 2 lines, That where the back Air is hooked up. I was going to switch them but did not get to it. So far I have not need to when dry camping. Most the time I look for a campgroung with power. Wife like that better.
