Hi Friends,

My husband James and I have just taken delivery of our brand new 2100, and we just love her. We're trying to customize it to work for us, and we're wondering what some of you have done. First, has anyone hung an over-the-door towel rack at the bathroom? On ours, there's a lip at the top, which looks like it might make that impossible. Any other thoughts about hanging up hand and bath towels? Also, where have you found to be the most convenient place for the toilet paper holder? Has anyone used racks or toilet paper holders with suction cups? Do they just flop on the road? Thanks so much. We are trying to be absolutely sure we know what we're doing before we start drilling holes....

Beth and James

I have to admit I have not found a spot I like for the toilet paper or the hand towel, so they both sit on my bathroom countertop.  I did put two big 3M stick hooks on the shower wall to hang towels.  I understand the reluctance to drill holes when you are trying to figure where you want things.  I have moved hooks multiple times before I settle on the perfect spot.  That's why I use the removable stick-on, because they really do remove without damage.

Thanks so much for your response. Does the stick-on one stay put when you're driving, or does it have to be taken down each time? Can you give me more info on the stick-on towel holder? Is it the kind that has tension and holds in place that way?

Hello, Welcome, and Congratulations, Beth and James.  :)

I have a 2351 so the bathroom layout is very different.  Not sure if there is any place in yours that this would work, but am posting it in case it does help either you or someone else.

I purchased a swivel towel holder from Ikea and brought it with me when I picked up my unit.  The factory installed it for me (also the TP holder and a towel hook in the kitchen).  This way I didn't have to worry about screwing something into a bad spot.

I've included pictures of the towel holder.  The two longer bars swivel out from the wall which is nice when I want the towel to be spread out to dry some.  Otherwise, I keep the bars with the towels flat against the wall.  In my bathroom, there is enough room for the towel rack to be mounted to the left of the shower door opening with the bars extending out along the toilet wall.  There is a very short knob below the two longer bars that also swivels.  I hang a tote bag on that (used for supplies when I use a campground shower).

Measurements:  From the wall to the end of the long towel bars: 15 1/2 inches
From the top to the bottom of the mount:  8 1/2 inches
Width of mount:  1 inch

I believe Ikea sells this in two sizes and if memory serves, I have the smaller of the two.

Good luck and have fun!

Beth and James,

Congratulations on the new PC.

We do not like putting holes in our unit either.  If you click on this link http://forum.phoenixusarv.com/index.php/topic,903.0.html here is how we mounted our toilet paper holder.  My DH built it out of wood and then stained it to match the unit.  He then attached it with double sided tape and it is 4 years and still holding.  Our unit is a 2551 so the layout is different then yours.

We favor the 3M command hooks and have used them in the shower to hang a shower caddy and then two hooks to hang wet coats when necessary.  The shower caddy is four years and counting and I leave our soap, shampoo and conditioner on it when we travel without any issues. Here is a link to an old post that shows our shower caddy and towel bar in our 2008 2350 that we sold. http://forum.phoenixusarv.com/index.php/topic,156.msg10177.html#msg10177

Our shower door is glass so we were able to mount two towel bars with double sided tape.  The towels stay on them when we travel and we have had no problenms with them.

Thanks for the tips so far. The 2100 is tiny, of course, but when my husband gets home, we'll take a look and see if any of the last two suggestions will work for us.

Very grateful for the support. We are both two of the least handy people on the planet!

Thanks,
Beth

The hooks I use are the 3M Command Adhesive.  There are many types and styles, but the ones that are specifically for "Bath" hold best on the shower wall under moist conditions.  The ones I used are like this:

That's great. I'll check them out. And they stick while you're driving?

My husband and I just bought a 2013 2100 and are going through the same decision making as you.  Seems like a lot of us do not want to drill into the walls, etc.

We found a stick on toilet tissue holder in Ace Hardware and attached it to the inside of the bathroom door.

I had some very good suction towel bars and hooks for wash cloths and towels from our previous RV that I attached to the back and front walls of the shower.   Also attached a suction caddie for shampoo, soap, etc.
to the shower wall.   We have had our 2100 just three weeks but so far so good with things staying put.  Our bathroom door is not designed for an over the door hook either.

I found a stick on paper towel holder that I attached vertically on the back wall to the left of the kitchen window.   I'm still working on the best place for kitchen trash.   For now we purchased a small plastic waste basket that fits in the step well next to the wall.  It doesn't interfere with the screen door or getting in or out of the Cruiser but I really don't like it there.

I would love to hear if any of you have other ideas for the 2100.   It actually has much more storage space than we thought.

Gail

You 2100 owners don't have any wall space for a towel bar with exception to the door itself.  But I would think anything sticking out from the door would make it impossible to move around in the bathroom while the door is closed.  That will take some serious creativity.

I have not had any of the 3M Command Hooks come loose while driving or under any other conditions.  However, the heaviest item would be a big bath towel, so that's not a serious challenge.
Ron, yes you are right, anything sticking out from the bathroom door wouldn't be desirable, in my opinion, because the floorspace in the 2100 bathroom is pretty much a postage stamp to turn around in.  My shower has the majority of the bathroom floorspace, so that's where I put my laundry basket.

We are thinking of putting the paper towel holder under the cabinet behind the light. And we were thinking of keeping all the garbage under the bathroom sink. Would love to hear any other ideas, too. My husband is afraid the toilet paper dispenser on the inside of the door would make it hard for him to get around.

On our 2350 we had the towel bar mounted one above the other in the shower on the side wall. When we took a shower we put the towels on the sink until needed. After the showers, the towels when back in the shower out of the way and out of sight. In a small space looks can matter so you don't feel closed in.

On our 2552 with the bigger bathroom, we mounted the towel bars one above the other on the inside of the sliding door and the toilet paper next to them.

What did you use to mount the racks IN the shower? We're concerned about hurting the surface. Thanks.

Just to make a point here....I am very impressed that you have a dry bath in a rig so short.  Something has to give somewhere.  It isn't much bigger in our 2350.  The saving grace we have is that our toilet is on an inside wall with some blank wall space above it for this towel rack.  The picture demonstrates poor utilization, but we typically have towels rolled up standing vertically.  They stay in place and it works pretty well.
