Filling the fresh water tank.
« on: April 16, 2015, 10:13:46 pm »
When I fill my fresh water tank I have always used the hookup on the driver side of the coach with the dial set to TANK. The overflow always comes out of the opposite side of the coach, it never comes out of the breather hole on the side I'm filling. Does anyone know if this is normal?

Thank you,
Dave

Dave:

Same with my rig, which is a 2552.  My thought has been that it is because the tank is on the passengers side of the rig, very close to that sides overflow.  I would imagine that if I closed off that side overflow the water would eventually come out the drivers side.  Not sure where your water tank is.

I read somewhere that when you fill it to the point that it flows out of that other fill spot, that it can create a siphoning situation and the water can continue to get sucked out for awhile, especially when moving.

I had a coach once that would siphon i/2 tank out after I filled it. The overflow drain did not have a loop in it and that caused a siphon effect. Once a loop it stopped.

Dave:

I have had a small amount of water come out the overflow while driving, but only once that I am aware of.

Tom Hanlon has posted in the past that when this occurs he uses a small section of pipe or hose over the overflow and blows into it, clearing the line.

I have a 2015...22551...and it does the same thing.   I also found that even after I turned the valve back to "city" it kept slowly filling the tank.   Part of that us my fault...I tried turning the valve counterclockwise back to city....bad move on my part.  Anyway, the resolution was to remove all pressure from the inlet... turn on the water pump and run a bit out...then turn clockwise to the city position and turn the site water back on.

Of course....in the meantime...I created a small lake beside the RV...I am going to ask Kermit about that when I visit next month.

OK, all you all who are filling their fresh water tank from the driver's side, where is the valve that switches from fill to city water?  My 2013 2552 only has a fill on the passenger side unless the valve is well hidden.  Thanks, Mark

The valve is not hidden, it is behind the new water hook up door. Your PC probably does not have one. I don't have one either. I sure wish we did as it is a major improvment that was added later, i think in 2014. You can see it on some of the videos and pictures of the new PCs.

Here is the valve and connection setup, which is behind a lockable small door on the drivers side.  Very convenient...

To close the loop on this thread...I was at the Phoenix factory todayand asked about the 4 way valve and its weep hole never showing the tank us full.   And the answer is, because the weep hole on the 4 way valve is NOT hooked up to anything.   At least on those units where the 4 way is on the opposite side from the tank.

On our 2014 2552 the overflow is connected to the passenger side weep hole.

Yup...and that just means your travelmate can assist by watching the passenger side weep hole and let you know when it starts bubbling so you can quickly change the switch and/oor shut the water off.
