Adding stuff to our 2552
« on: March 15, 2015, 07:07:15 pm »
Inspired by user Pax (thanks, Mike) we added shelves to the short closets at the foot of each bed.

We also mounted two Fisher Automotive cupholders

These automatically adapt to mug size, but a low mounted handle interferes.

Here's the other one.

Nice job, guys!  Better than what I did, for sure.   Applause for the cup holders....very difficult to manage your gin and tonics when you don't have a dinette in the slide!  We might steal that idea!

For future 2552 owners.....those two cabinets at the foot of each bed are extremely useful.  But, how you want to use them is semi-critical.   Do you want hanging storage for clothing or shelving for folded clothes and/or kitchen equipment, etc?  We use one for long-hanging clothing like coats, etc. the other is general and kitchen storage on shelves (pots/pans, induction cooker, etc). If you know how you want to use those cabinets then the factory could install really nice looking shelving if you need it.  Otherwise, you would need to do what John and I did....measure the space, which is NOT square, find suitable wood, buy it, cut it correctly, stain it, install shelving brackets (hoping they are secure).....well, you get the idea.

Anyway, hope to see ya on the road sometime!

Hey Mike, I didn't realize you put in your own shelves. Something occurred to me when looking at the pics, Phoenix did our shelves because we are NOT tool guys. Ours have a little lip across the front, maybe a one inch piece of wood added on with matching cherry laminate. This can get in the way if you are putting things in and out that are as high as the shelf space but they also keep a lot of the stuff from sliding and slamming into the cabinet door on turns. Rubber shelf liner helps with that also.

A note for those trying to decide - the shelves come out so you can drop them in the bottom of the cabinet and be back to having hanging space again. The clothing bar is still in there. You can decide trip by trip which function those cabinets will serve.

Holly, I think the factory is now removing the bar if you request shelves. I bet one could ask for both as we did.

There are pros and cons either way as the bar can get in the way when using the top shelf but I like the option of having it in there. I slide our floppy sun hats between the bar and ceiling so the one side is actually in use all the time. I imagine it is better for resale also as many people want more hanging space. They can swap back to a shirt closet in minutes.
