Battery replacement
« on: February 23, 2015, 12:19:13 pm »
My 2010 PC 2551 batteries are dying.  I am the second owner and I believe the batteries in coach and chassis are original. Date shown on batteries is 2008 but could be older.  Called Kermit and asked what I need to purchase.  I searched with the name on the battery which was Exide Nautilus NC27 and no luck so Kermit said search for 12v Group 27 Deep Cycle Marine battery.  So far the batteries are too high for the case/holder.  So has anyone else had this problem.  Luckily I don't have camping plans at present with this cold weather  and now  have to take care of this issue. The MH has been kept in our Pole Barn and it has been in the 20's some nights. I had MH plugged in and drove or ran it from time to time to hopefully not have the above problem but when the batteries are old there is nothing that will help.   I just had to replace a battery in my Saturn. It was only two years old and that was the life of the battery.
So any suggestions.  Hopefully I won't have refabricate the pan for the batteries to fit
Kermit said they installed 2- 6v batteries in the newer homes.  Sometimes I wish I could afford the newer PC's.
 :)

Hi,
I replaced the coach batteries in my new to me 2008 2551 in late January.  I went to S&S RV Super Service Center (recommended by Tom Hanlon).  George at S&S recommended Astro-Lite Group 27 Deep Discharge Marine batteries (12 volt).  He also tested the charging systems both from the vehicle alternator and the Trip Lite Inverter/Charger.  I had a very good experience with S&S and would recommend them.
I see that you are in PA, but I don't know how far you are from Gettysburg.

thanks.  I know them. They were very helpful when I camped out there. They are 90 miles from my home. So maybe it would be worth while to go there if I don't have any luck in my area.   Having problems finding the right size to fit.

Freckletweety I sent you an email.
replied to email and  checked out the battery mentioned  and found a place in Newark DE which is closer. I will call them tomorrow and get a price.  It seems the size of the batteries will work. The present ones are 12x6.25x8" high.   This battery from TSB Tri State is 6.9 high x6.5wx13 long.  I will double check the pan again to see if the 13"length will work.
Keep you posted. thanks for the help :)

Found out that astro-lite battery is no longer available.  It would have been perfect. Still searching for the correct size too. Will keep you posted..

I found several Group 27 batteries that I though would fit the battery tray on the PC at Battery One (Excide and Crown) and Battery Warehouse.  You might check those sources near you.
