New chassis

New chassis

I am observing several  manafacturers utilizing the Ford F-450 and 550 chassis's and wonder what Kermit and PC might be up to?!  The new Ford chassis that is suppose to at some time replace the E series will not carry the loads we all carry.   Would love to see a new PC model based on the "F" chassis!

I have mixed feelings about a motor home with a pickup truck front end.  There is a lot more non-house length to what is already a very long vehicle.  I would not mind it as much if the PC factory could utilize some of that length through an alternative to the B+ cap, an optional seamless front cab-over bed larger than this.

I'm not a car guy (car gal?) but I thought the difference between the F-450 and E-450 was the body they stuck on basically the same chassis. E was econoline van and F was... I don't know, Ford Truck. Is the front of the "F" that different from the "E"? If not, I think you just insulted my motor home. I love the sleek lines of the Phoenix. The one in the picture looks boxy and crude compared to ours and obviously has that "crawl back out of the cab" requirement instead of our open space.

Hey, I love our PC too, styling lines and all.  Actually I appreciate our older style E350 with our optional front bumper cover for a stylish appeal.  It is a matter of taste for sure.

My point was....If the nose is going to stick out like a pickup truck, I thought it might be worth offering an "OPTIONAL" bigger (still seamless) front cap to utilize some of that space.

I always thought PC USA would sell more PCs if they offered an "OPTIONAL" large cab-over bunk to attract families with kids who could utilize that extra sleeping area.  That would be more family friendly than a conversion couch.  The kids go to sleep earlier up top with a curtain drawn while Mom & Dad stay up and have the entire rig to themselves until they are ready for bed.  The same benefits would apply to the morning hours.

BTW: I always thought the "F" series was their pickup truck line, F150, F250, F350, etc.  I don't believe it is the same basic chassis, but I can't say for certain.

During a test drive a few weeks ago I understood the PC employee who rode with us to say PC has built some units with the cab over bunk to ship overseas.  We have owned a few Born Frees all with the E-450 chassis and had a chance to see a Born Free at their factory with the F series Chassis recently. I agree the E series looks better, much cleaner look.

All good points that I can not disagree with.  The bottom line is the E series is suppsoe to be gone within 5 years and the replacement Ford chassis has a GCVW less than a Sprinter.  I do not see Ford getting out of the RV business so I see no option other than the F series since there is no sign that the pickup business is slowing down.   The F series would allow longer coaches to be built on them, more cab room, better ride, quite.  While we all may like the E-series I am afraid it has reached the end of its road.   Ths.

ragoosp, I too wonder how the RV industry will respond to the upcoming changes in the chassis industry.  Who knows.  Motor homes may improve, or maybe our current-day rigs will be highly sought-after until they become too old for resale consideration.  We will find out together.

For me personally, an F-series would mean that I would have to scale shorter to model 2100 because our 2350 would be too long for our garage.  Forced to go there, that would be a real bummer to me.

It would be very interesting to compare dimensions from the front bumper to the back edge of the cut-away cab, E-series to F-series.  How much longer is the F-Series?  That is the dimension that changes the game.  The rest is secondary to me.  But "length" is my thing.  For others it's capability.

E-Series cutaway = 92.5"
F-Series cut-away = 118.9"
difference = 26.4"
Not as much as would have expected but still detrimental for us.
A PC-2100 would go from 21'-2" to 23'-4".
A PC-2350 would go from 23'-8" to 25-10"....Yikes!
