Since we had to buy a small can of chassis saver (8 oz) at $20 a can and only needed a small amount to fix our doorframe we decided to tackle a couple of other areas. Once the chassis saver is exposed to air it is very difficult to store it for too long of a period. Here are before and after pictures of our step and hitch. We are very pleased with the results and hopefully it will keep the rust away.

Very Nice job on the hitch. I did my battery box with it. I will do the hitch after the entry way.

We did our battery box when we first got the PC in 2011. The battery box still looks brand new!!!

Beautiful protection job! Is the chassis saver applied with a brush?
Seems like drips from bottom of the step could be hazardous while applying it.

Thanks, because of the tight area, the step is really a 2-person job. One to apply the chassis saver and the other to move the light, respond quickly to drips, spills and whatever else needs to be done.
In the future I would use a fresh brush for each coat and each part. It is just too hard to keep the chassis saver from setting up on the brush. I used the same brush for the first coat on the step and the hitch. The bristles were getting stiff before I could finish the hitch and had to sand out brush marks before the second coat. The hitch finish is still not as smooth as I wanted .
We got the chassis saver from the local NAPA Parts Store. It was almost half the price of the first can we bought at a non-chain parts store.
We found UNI-SOLVE by Smith&Nephew will remove the chassis save from skin within an hour or so after contact.

I really want to get to sealing the back side of our step. It starts with buying that chassis saver product.

Good job
I think I commented last year about using Por 15 a rust remover/inhibitor,,then you have to paint it paint can not be exposed to UV rays,,, so this looks like a better alternative.. it is not cheap either,,,, also messy....
