Noisy ceiling air conditioner.

Noisy ceiling air conditioner.

Have any of you come up with a solution to help curb the loud noise of the ceiling ac/heater unit?  We love our 3100 but hate the overhead noise.

The only solution to the overhead A/C noise is the large class A's that have basement Air and fed through ducts.  Some of the Class C's have ducted air, but you still have the A/C mounted in the ceiling for the return.  Does help some with the noise.  If someone can come up with a noise damper for the A/C, patent it and let us know.

Our Coleman is subjectively less noisy, especially on low fan speed, than the stock A/C.

Since the noise really emanates mostly from the fan, there should be a design at some point that distributes both the noise and air at various points.  Maybe a hybrid-duct type of thing.  (You listening, Kermit?)

Yes the a/c unit is noisy, noisy in any brand of motor home without ducting.  I wish there was an easy remedy.  Ducting helps with the noise, but it comes at an increase to rig height.  PCs are low-profile for improved fuel economy and handling and going ductless helps to achieve it.  Also, we don't wreck our rigs on low hanging branches in camp grounds.  They have all been broken off at the expense of taller rigs.  :)

As Pax said some of the noise from the A/C unit is caused by the speed of the fan.  It is just noisier when the fan is running on high.  I keep our fan set to AUTO so when I use the A/C I try and keep the room temperature and set temperature within 5º this causes the fan to run on low speed therefore it is a little less noisy.

Ditto! On low speed our Coleman Mach 8 Heat Pump is very quiet. Replaced the Dometic when new at factory.

Yup, the Mach 8 is pretty awesome (ours is a 15k btu non-heat pump unit).  Low profile on the roof, relatively quiet when on low fan speed.

Of course, the low profile A/C doesn't really matter when you have a Winegard Mission satellite on the roof.  It's the only thing on our PC that was grazed by a rogue low branch.  Luckily the dome is resilient plastic and I could just pop the dent back out.
