Steps and outside door light

Well, being basically ignorant of electrical stuff this mystery was solved anyhow.  Yay!!!

Problems:  The step would not stay down when using the wall switch by the door. 
                The outside light would not work when using its switch. 

I replaced the bulb in the outside light fixture and wow...they both work now! 

(I had called the factory and checked the fuse...under the Sprinter's passenger seat...but the fuse
was ok.)

 The two switches were unlabeled, but now I know that the white switch works the light and black works the step!
Yay.  Dumb luck.

This may not be true all the time but I have found this to be true on 3 PC's. 

When switches are installed (stack) one above the other the physically lowest switch controls the physically lowest item (steps) and the physically highest switch will control the physically highest item (light).

Maybe others on the forum can confirm this observation.

Makes sense, even to me.   Afterward, the auto mechanic said they must've been on the
same electrical circuit---the burned out bulb had broken the circuit.   

I am just glad two problems have been solved with one "fix."

Never would I have guessed that one influences the other.

Sounds like a series connection that should not be.
