The best story I have was down at Myrtle Beach where the coolers left out overnight seem to make their way down to the beach. The kids seem to think it is party time in the evenings and they need something to drink. The security goes to the beach the first thing in the morning and anyone missing a cooler goes to them to claim it. Kids will be kids.

A friend of mine had a fifth wheel with 30 amp service and I had a class A with 50 amp service. He bought a bigger fifth wheel with 50 amp service and I down sized to the PC with 30 amp. I had always kept the 50 amp protector in the electric compartment out of the weather and sight. I asked him to swap with me and he was more than happy to. After his first trip he showed me a 50 amp protector that was well weathered looking, all cracked and split at the seems. Our guess is that someone ran over their protector and saw his nice shiny one. A quick swap must have been in order. So I can understand Holly's concern about her new protector.

For information.
Phoenix installed the Progressive Industries surge protector and remote monitor, which I supplied to them after I ordered my new 2552. The monitor was installed next to the door switch so I could see what the voltage was and any error codes as soon as I looked in the door.
It really saved my system this year. 2 lost refrigerators and 1 lost microwave from other campers when we were in Mexico.
My EMS protected me.  One time a eurapean camper caused 220v to go into the system when his transformer shorted out. It blew the surge fuse on my EMS but everything else still worked and protected the system until I could replace it.

Don't go to Mexico without some kind of electrical protection.

Most campgrounds that we have been to have been safe and theft free but at the beach in FL ,during spring break, it is vital to lock everything up.  Our neighbors were missing their lawn chairs and BBQ one morning.  We were walking and found them next to the campground that was also next to a restaurant.  Apparently someone got hungry, stole some steaks from the restaurant, needed a BBQ and chairs and made themselves a nice meal.

Another friend of ours lost a bike but found it a week later after the spring breakers left. 

The security guards and police are always warning us at the beach during spring break to lock everything up at night.

Camping World sells a lock that clamps around the outlet plug of the surge protector.  I thought about getting one because I had thoughts of someone stealing mine.  Then I realized the thief could simply cut the power cord or unplug the surge protector and take everything.  I decided to just relax and enjoy the campsite/area.

Is it hard to install the "Rig Internal" surge protector ourselves?  This seems the ultimate solution.....or are there concerns with this type.

Why cut a good cord when all you have to do is unplug both ends?  :'( :beg >( roflol :lol

That would depend on your electrical skills. You have to cut the main power cable and splice it in. NOT something I would ever do but I know some of you super fix it guys wouldn't think twice about it.

Thank you Tom for the we'll wishes and all the help. We are dawdling this morning. Kermit has an early appointment so we are waiting until he gets in at 10:30 or so. That way we get to meet and greet with both Kermit and Earl.

Keelhauler, you have the Progressive Industries internal hard wired electrical management system in you PC and took a power hit. Was it plug and play replacement like they advertise? What did it take for you to fix it?

John,

Let me chime in on this one. 

I have had both the hard wired and external Progressive Industries units. They are truly "plug and play".
Install Note: the display should be visible from outside so you can want to watch it cycle through the start-up tests. 

Last summer my unit failed.  I stopped at the Progressive Ind. facility where they tested, replaced and demonstrated the new unit.  I was on my way in a half-hour.  They are almost as good to deal with as our folks at PC.

I found THIS INTERNAL POWER SURGE PROTECTION UNIT with a remote display.

Is there any concern of a power surge from the Onan4000 generator?  If so, then the protection should be installed by the power transfer switch instead of by the power plug.

Aaarg, Aimee, may we see them before they are published? I hate pictures but Earl was so nice I couldn't say no. John and I are sitting here in Shipshewana North Campground enjoying a beautiful evening with a beautiful new Phoenix Cruiser and toasting her with a bottle of Jack Daniels. Life is good

Well, NOT the whole bottle, just a toast. Age tends to bring lessons on moderation.

John is sitting here with his feet up, listening to some awesome bird song, watching the sunset, sipping JD and answering emails to the boss... which means we get paid for this! John said he is not sure he will be able to continue to work under these intolerable conditions.

About the on-board hard-wired surge suppressor/power management system -Kermit said yes, they can install them after the build BUT it is much more difficult and they would have to get up under the coach to wire it in.
