Heated Water Hose

  (WH) Need some input on the Heated Water Hose advertised in Camping World. Thought of purchasing it but there is always the thought of it being stolen.  Had to think that way. It's $92 but the shipping is $15. Camping world shipping costs are high. My nearest store is 30 miles and a 45 min drive from my home.  A couple of times I camped  last year in the cold weather, I just disconnected the water hose from the camper during the night when it was reported to be freezing.  But after a few hours and the sun came up, I just hooked back up again.
  So what is everyones thought on this hose.

You have the best plan in hand, and cheapest.  You have the tank for immediate demands if it doesn't warm up so that you can re-connect.

CW has a habit of producing trial balloons at high prices just to see if they will float and their kinda high shipping has to be a money maker for them considering bulk shippers get a rate break.

thanks, it is cheaper to disconnect the hose and for the amount of cold weather camping I do, I 'll do the cheaper route plus it is another hose to store.
Going out the end of february to Williamsburg, VA and it shouldn't be that bad then. I was there at the end of Feb. last year and did okay.

You are already doing what I have done for the last forty years without any problems. Enjoy Williamsburg it should be warm enough by then.

I wonder if wrapping the hose with generic plumbing heat tape, would be an affordable alternative.  But maybe it would be difficult to manage.  Maybe keeping it straight using wire ties?  Heat tape is sold in all freeze area home improvement centers.

Hi – I’m new to winter camping, just purchased a new PC 2552 and will be camping and traveling  across northern Oklahoma, the Texas Panhandle, New Mexico and northern Arizona on our way to Phoenix. My question – will the chassis heater and /or the coach furnace (with the tank heater) be sufficient to keep us from having cold weather plumbing problems?  :)

Yes, PCs are designed for sub-freezing conditions, but I am not sure what the lower limit is.  All fresh water plumbing is inside where it is warm and insulated.  But how cold it can tollerate depends on how well you maintain the warm interior.  Also make sure all your outdoor storge compartment doors are fully latched to provide the best seal against the cold.

Be sure you have bled the water out of your outdoor shower.  This is done by draining the pipes with the shower faucet open.  Then close the shower faucet valves before pressurizing the system again.

My father taught me to use heat tape for these applications. If its going to get REALLY cold, add insulation.
