Our wineguard sensar (batwing antenna) seems to work off and on, even when we are metropolitan cites like St Petersburg. FL. I picked up the wingman to improve the reception on the channels from 15 to 51 at Camping world, and while talking to the salesperson -- an RV owner with winegard sensor -- he said that these antennas have button that is pressed when first trying to locate a channel it boost the power to improve catching a signal. Ours is a PC 2010 model that was sold in Sept 2009 so this may be an improvement after our build.

I did learn doing some research on the internet -- still cannot find a manual for operation -- that the new signal is either on or off, not like old TV signal when fuzzy meant that you are only getting part of the signal, thus the signal needs to be caught in the right direction or you get nothing.

Question: Does anyone have such a button and where might it be on the 2551?

Question: Also has anyone recommend that i install one of the directional meters to facilitate the finding of channels.

The button is in the cabinet over the passenger seat where the antenna comes in. The button is on the right side of the antenna cable, a red light will come on (on the opposite side) when the button is pushed. We live about 30 miles from Ft. Myers and when the booster is on, we get the Ft. Myers stations as clear as a bell.

Some people buy the directional meters. It seems that they might save some frustration when looking for a station.

As far as I know the Winegard antennas have had signal amps as an option for years.  My 2006 PC 2551 has one as did my two previous RVs.  As mentioned before, you have an on/off button on your antenna  hookup panel and a red light to see when it's on.  Should you have one without amplification, I found this statement in the manual on the Winegard internet site:

ADDING OPTIONAL AMPLIFIED WALLPLATE TO
NON-AMPLIFIED RV/TV INSTALLATION
Model RA-7596 solid state TV signal amplifier works
with any non-amplified RV/TV antenna. Improves
picture quality. Uses +12 VDC; has on/off switch,
indicator light, set 2 output, cable input and +12 VDC
receptacle

A couple of other things to consider.

1.  Have the antenna amplifier turned on before you scan for stations on your TV.

2.  Insure your TV is set up to receive an over the air signal and not a cable signal.

3.  If the red light does not come on you might have a blown 12V fuse.

I also have a 2010 2551 and it does have the amplifier with the button and red led light, it is in the cabinet over the passenger seat.

As the others have said, you have to have the light on for over the air reception and off when cable is plugged into the rv.  When on a road trip staying in different places each night it can get confusing; one night on antenna and the next may be on park cable.  Now my wife reminds me to check the amplifier if I am having trouble with the TV reception.  And as Barry said, you also have to switch the TV between cable and "air" antenna input.

I purchased the wingman to help reception in remote areas like Quartzsite, AZ, it works.

One trick I use is to look at the roof of other RVs near me and see which way the antenna is pointing. I then point mine in the same direction, turn on the booster button (red light), check air or cable setting on the TV, then scan for channels. I hope someone near me has been watching TV or has paid the big bucks for the direction finder.
