Just saw a Smart Car on the Phoenix web site. Does anyone know if you can flat tow a smart car and if so which models.

You cannot flat tow a smart car.  I just called Stuart to ask.

Cheers!

About Smart Car..... I posed the tow question to Linda.  Her response was "...it depends on the transmission".  So, if you have a Smart Car, ask Mercedes I would think.  If you are to buy one, well,...again ask Mercedes.  Or check one of those tow guides some org puts out each year - it may be Trailer Life or Woodall's, etc.   (cheer) (cheer)

Here is a site I have used in the past to check if a car is towable four down..

http://www.remcotowing.com/vehicles

They have a great customer service center (1-800-228-2481 ) and have been willing and able to answer most questions in the past.

BUT as everyones says check with Mercedes just to be on the safe side.

The same rules of the Smart applied for towing our 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder as is with many other vehicles.
Stick Shift Transmission - YES
Automatic Transmission - NO

The selection for flat towing a vehicle with an automatic transmission is not that abundant.  Also, some auto trans vehicles allow for towing, but with stipulations like special 500 mile procedures.

BTW: Not all stick shift transmissions are allowed either.  Selecting a tow vehicle does take some research.

I thought how cute the little Fiat would look behind the 2350.

A friend of ours who had a Class A said that you can have the tow cars equipped with a drive shaft disconnect, and that is what he always had done.

He always had Camping World do the work as he said they were the most reasonable and knew what they were doing.

Don't know if this is of any help .... we were asking the same questions a few weeks ago about what you can tow and what you can't.

All greek to us .... we will just have to go places the PC can go and not have to leave her behind  (nod), although I would love to have something small to pull behind ... just in case.

A drive shaft disconnect would be useful when there is a drive shaft.  Such vehicles are rear wheel drive.  Front wheel drive cars wouldn't have a drive shaft.

I heard every front wheel drive Saturn car (not sure about Saturn SUVs), automatic or stick shift, were all approved for 4-wheel-down (flat) towing.  That is why they were so popular as a tow vehicle for so many years.  But they are dropping off the "Popularity List" as they age and are no longer made.
