Infrared heaters only heat you not the air. If you are looking to keep things, like water, from freezing, they do not work. We use a small cube heater set on the lowest setting to keep the pipes from freezing. It doesn't seem to add much to the electric bill that I can tell.

we purchased a Duraflame, infared heater.  I guess i should have added Quartz Infared, From there web site:

What is quartz infra-red heat?
Quartz infra-red heat is safe, economical heat that evenly distributes warmth throughout your room.  Room air intake passes through the high efficiency lifetime filter that removes dust and dirt before entering the heater. A high velocity, whisper quiet fan, circulates air through the heater at 2 meters per second. The air then enters the Heat Chamber where it passes over 2 bent sheets of copper that are heated by 6 PowerHeat infra quartz heater elements.  Heat from the copper combines with the humidity in the room to provide soft, moist, heat.
