Anyone here from Alabama?

We’re looking at a few states to possibly relocate. So far I know people in the other locations to answer my questions but not Alabama.  Is there anyone here who can give me insight on costs associated with Motorhome license fees, auto and home insurance etc? In Alabama were specifically looking in the Fair Hope area. 

Alabama here! Next door to Fairhope in Foley. We moved here 11 years ago. We love the area. I grew up in Clearwater, Fl. and have lived in PA, MN, and OH. Property taxes are cheap. Tags for the MH close to $700. Home owners insurance is going to depend on your home value and location. The closer you are to the water, the higher it will be. We have that hurricane thing going on here. Auto insurance also has a lot of variables, but seems reasonable. In general, I think the cost of living is reasonable compared to other places. If you don't like hot and humid, travel in the summer!

Thomas, Thanks. We don’t have humid here but heat,,,,, heat we have a plenty. 112-115 is common. We’re just sick of California. Love the weather here but okay thru the teeth just for weather.

So far Tennessee appears to be the friendliest to retirees. A friend of mine has a much newer MH than mine and pays 29 a year for his tags, no state income tax and the property tax is reasonable as well.

Every place I've lived has pros and cons. Tennessee is too cold for me and too far from the beach! I do have a son in Bowling Green, KY, so we do frequent that area. We originally came here for a Tiffin motor home rally when we lived in Ohio and fell in love with the area. Hubby was on the cusp of retiring and his employer offered him a position in Mobile. Fate I guess. He promised them 2 years and here we are!
There are 2 other PC owners in this area (Spanish Fort) and another PC couple we know in Milton, Fl.
I have another son in San Diego. Beautiful weather! Too crowded and expensive for us.

Thomas, no doubt no place is perfect for everyone and everyplace has trade offs. I could care less if I ever went to the beach again. I actually do my best to avoid it, but that’s me, I’d rather be on a lake front. I lived in San Diego years back as well, pretty area but all in all I’m tired of living in Mexico and despise socialism so California simply isn’t the best place for me anymore.  That’s not even touching the 13.5 state income tax, 4 dollar gas, and endless fees. Fees are what you get when they think we’re too stupid to know what’s happening. IE the other day I bought a board and paid the sales tax, along with that’s the state charges a board fee. It would be funny if it wasn’t so sickening.
