Emptying the grey and water tanks
« on: February 03, 2012, 04:59:48 pm »
It seems that the meter never shows the tanks being less than 1/3 full. That is after the pump runs free and there is no more water being expelled, the meter shows 1/3 full.

I recognize it may be the meter, but am wondering if i ought to just put the 3.5 inch drain hose on and see if it wlll empty any more. Any other suggestions. Is there a way to see the tanks to make a visual inspection in both tanks?

We, really Linda as I tend to not give a  :-D,  also noticed the gauges showing Not Empty.  I started hooking up a non-potable garden hose to the tank washer widget & opening the washer valve thingy for a few minutes each & then flushing out the shmeggs & doedums.  Then the gauges show empty 2o2

I have sometimes thought about using a dip stick to check the black water tank by opening the valve in the head to gain access........then the thought of what to do with the dip stick gets me  >:(

Good luck

We also have run into the phantom meter & have used the water flush to fully clear the tank (and have the meter truely read empty).  Some thoughts are that there may only be some residue along the tank walls & not actually 1/3 full which the flushing quickly washes away.  On our new 2012 2552, I've been using the 3.5in drain & haven't even touched the macerator yet.  Since Phoenix USA put the manual valve handle on the 3.5in drain line, its a whole lot quicker and easier.  Don't think you have anything to worry about!

The tanks are black and ours are wrapped, no visual inspection possible.  Although you may be able to see down into the toilet that your black one is full, but not empty.

I used to think it was the meter and gunk stuck on the sides, but that doesn't explain a grey that never shows empty.  And they would show 1/3 even after a thorough flush and pump out with the Sani-Com.

At the end of the season I used the 3.5" sewer drain and now the gauge does in fact read empty.  There was a few gallons (less than 5) remaining in each even after the pump ran dry.  I suspect the pump is not capable of draining the tanks completely in my rig ... a 2010 Sprinter 2350.

The same thing happens on my 2551 2010, meter shows 1/3 after pump runs free.  I have found that if I don't use the tanks right away, the meters eventually show empty, maybe the sensors dry out.  Once, to check if the tank is empty after the pump runs free, I opened the toilet valve with the water off and can see the bottom of the tank so I know the tank is empty even if ther meter shows 1/3, can't do this on the grey tank but assume same thing there.

So, now I don't worry about the 1/3 reading when empty and the 2/3 and full indications seem to be fairly accurate when in use to know when to empty.
