I have also had good results on problems like this by prepping well and then coating both contact surfaces with JB Weld plus the oversize screws.   If I hadn't had the tape, I would have JB welded it.   By the way, when you use this tape be aware that it develops a stronger bond over time and is best not tested for a day or two.   I learned that the hard way.

2Lucky has a good point I missed.   (nod)   Hold open latches:

and spring loaded... I totally overlooked them. And sounds like exactly what you are referring to......

Has anybody tried magnetic latches to  replace these? On my first outing with my new 2552 I pulled the side compartment door closed forgetting about the latch.
Oh well, slightly larger screws fixed that one.
Have seen magnetic catches on less expensive brand campers that seemed to work well and wondering if anybody has found some they are happy with.

Regarding the plastic catches pictured above, there are a few different designs that are very subtle.  So be prepared to be disappointed if the ones you bought don't align with the existing holes in your exterior wall.  Be prepared to reorder.  I ended up ordering replacements from Phoenix after my first order purchased elsewhere was a mismatch.

Does PC still use the plastic latches which are likely to break? The metal ones are so much better.

I like the idea of magnets (no parts to break) instead of the latches except one thing. A friend of mine had them on his towable camper and while the hatch was open he bumped it, the hatch swung down and hit him on the bridge of his nose. He no longer likes the magnets, and seeing his 2 black eyes leads me to believe the latches are a better choice.

How strong are the metal latches? Wondering if plastic is better in that they would break rather than doing damage?

Given the presented data, I would draw the same conclusion.  (exactly)

Take care Lance.
