Coach water pump
« on: September 15, 2020, 05:39:51 pm »
After a grewelling day of driving and an hour plus realized I forgot my insulin and had to return home, get it and then back on the road. That set the tone for the day. Any way finally arrived at out campsite. Set up & when we turned on the water pump, it kept surging. Could flush the cammode, and get some water out of the faucets, but not near the volume as before. Turn the water off and the pump continues to surge.
Any ideas? A quick simple fix would be great! As these ten thumbs are arthritic. And today is first or a 3 week trip.
Need Help, please!

Any place you could hook up to water and make sure there is no air in the lines? Outside shower is often forgotten when purging the air.

Sounds to me like there is an open valve or perhaps you forgot to fill the water heater.    With the pump running, open a hot water faucet.   You may get an immediate output of water, but wait about 10 seconds, if the water stops and air comes out... Let it purge and fill the water heater.

Also, check all faucets, cold and hot including the outside shower.

Lastly, check your low point drains, are they fully closed?

How many times have you had it out this year (since you bought it),any issues on those trips?

And final check, if all else fails, do you see water dripping underneath the coach?

Great advise!  No need for me to repeat what Don wrote.

My two low point drains always "get" me.  I never remember to close them, wondering what's wrong here.  Then I step outside and hear the noise of air & water shooting out from below.

I have to use so much hand muscle to work those tiny little stamped metal handles.  Every year it gets harder and harder to fully close them.  I wish I had 1/4 turn ball valves there, but I figure it's best not to disturb what still works, be it getting harder.  Maybe I am getting older.

When filling the water tank at home you must purge the air from the lines, both hot and cold, all the lines...toilet and outside shower. If you purge the hot lines, the water heater will be full. If you don't purge, you will be filling the 7 gallon heater from your tank with your pump which takes awhile and wastes your water. If your tank runs dry, the water in the heater is unusable.

I played with the winterize/fill/city water valve & it made no difference. Something you should know is we have no hot water tank. A Truma Combi, which is an instant hot water/ furnace. Didn't ask for it, came with this model. I never even thought to ask that.
Any way I did notice some water that appeared to be coming from the Truma drain hose. Called Dave Ponsler, left a message and Doug called me. Explained what was going on. We talked a couple of times & I explained that we were on the road, literally doing 65mph, so I couldn't check just then. He admitted that this unit is new to him & had to do some homework, would call me back. Gave me some things to try in a certain sequence & to then text him with the results. In the mean time he was having a Truma engineer come over & explain things to him. He would then call me tomorrow. And in closing, he so much as appologized for the inconvience and closed by saying. We WILL get this fixed for you. So there we stand.
Going to continue most of our trip with a possible side stop in Elkhart if all else fails.

Phoenix *should* be able to authorize a "local" (to where you are) repair shop to fix the problem OR pay you the cost to drive to Elkhart and any campsites on the way.

Doug at Phoenix said he thinks it's a bad check valve in tne Truma. Off to see him on our way home.

At the mothership today. Doug replaced the Anderson valve and all seems to be working. He asked that we stay over night and use it. Truma hot water is on & working with no leaks. Tomorrow the Truma tech comes over & the two of them will run a pressure check on the system. Doug also fixed a couple of small things that weren't broken, but just not quite right.
Glad we were on the road in Wisconsin & the UP, and could stop by to get this done, and not in Florida or the such.
Good ole Doug! And as a bonus we finally got to meet Carol, the parts goddess.

Carol has served me extremely well since 2007.  Everything I asked for over the years has been small potatoes, but still she always came through promptly and never price gouging.

I can't say anything negative about Phoenix from a personal point of view.  The company makes it easy to recommend others to consider.   As of late, I have been reading of people having some serious issues, and that is unfortunate.  But nothing lasts forever, and no matter the quality, there is only so much that can be done consistently.  There will always be an "oops" along the way during production.  We all can hope that once repaired, it's back to the same good Phoenix quality.
