Jumbo Sprinter B vans

NOT impressed with my neighbor’s new Airstream Interstate. Same exterior  dimensions as a Phoenix Cruiser 2350, only one foot foot narrower. Has a wet bath, rear sofa bed, small water tanks, limited  stora and cargo capacity.

I would feel  sick if I looked at  a 2350 (Sprinter or Ford) after buying a new AI.

Airstream Interstate was the wife's first choice.  Went to dealer.  Walked into van.  Walked out of van.  Changed her mind in 30 seconds.  :-D

More research led to Phoenix and very glad we did.

Back in 2006/2007 when shopping for a new motor home, the PC-2350 was the biggest rig that would fit in our garage, and the smallest rig that was truly fully-featured with practical-use features.  Not airplane bathroom features like a Rialta for example.  We owned our first motor home HERE for nearly 24 years.  It was only 17.5 feet long, bumper to bumper.  It had a big dinette but we had to sleep on it because the over-head bed was too confining.  It didn't take long before we kept the dinette as a bed all the time and lived without a dinette.  When shopping for a replacement rig, we had a serious wish-list and the rig had to fit in our garage HERE.

1) A bed big and comfortable enough for the two of us to sleep together on, and setup all the time as a bed.
2) A practical-use dinette/bed that we could always leave setup as a dinette.
3) A fridge big enough to hold a reasonable amount of food and drink.
4) A kitchen sink big enough to serve as a kitchen sink.  Not a small and shallow bar sink.
5) A decent stove.
6) A bathroom where the toilet is not in the shower
7) Reasonable size fresh and waste water holding tanks, propane tank, and main gas tank

We found it all plus so much more with our 2007 2350 which offers a lot in a very small package.  Features drop out when going any smaller.

I agree with you with needing more room.  That Mirage was really tight.

Our Mirage was great for all but the last few years.  We bought it new in 1983 for $12,225 at age 25 when our first born arrived.  We had it throughout our years raising our family with many good memories made.  But when the kids grew up and just the two of us traveling, we felt it was time for an upgrade for so many reasons.

The last straw was traveling through South Dakota in 2006 in 117 degree heat.  Our Mirage was a stripped-down model with no a/c of either kind.  We had wash cloths on our heads, pouring water over them.  We had to drive with the windows rolled up because the wind burned like fire.  Irene fell in and out of consciousness at one point.  That rig was a real slug with only a 96 hp carbureted engine.....I could not get to a/c fast enough.  That was our last trip with our Mirage.  The next trip was with our PC-2350.

Our kids were all upset when the Mirage was for sale.  I said.... "I'd be happy to sell it to you"  But the kids quickly went silent.  We sold that Mirage while waiting for our PC to be built.  It sold for $7,600, a depreciation of only $4,625 in 24 years.

The  170” wheelbase Sprinter vans  are enormous-
Dimensions: 290″ L x 80″ W x 106-108″ H (w/o roof air)
- but much too narrow for a motorhome. The AI’s interior is  like a stretched Dodge Ram Pleasure Way with a longer center aisle and  more headroom. The craziest part is that the only hanging closet  is a 12" wide wardrobe.

Yeah, we were looking hard at the AI as well as Pleasure Way; then we saw the 2012 PC 2400 floor plan while touring the mother ship.  ;) We were sold on PC!   :)(:
