General Discussion / Re: Holding tanks not draining through macerator
« on: October 13, 2022, 10:34:11 am »
Hi all - sorry for the radio silence, busy driving home. Good ideas to try, once I can find a little help. Back problem makes it difficult to get down there to work on it. I’ll try to con one of the kids into helping (maybe if I don’t tell them what it is…  ;) ). It’s being winterized and stored today, but maybe I can get it some nice day yet this fall and play around with it. Thanks again for all the ideas.

Thanks guys. I think I’ll try Ron’s method first - seems to me like it might be less messy. Plus I have a habit of taking things apart and not getting them back together again 🙄. Luckily we are moving tomorrow to a campground with full hookups, and will be there for a couple of days. I will keep you posted.

General Discussion / Holding tanks not draining through macerator
« on: October 01, 2022, 09:47:34 am »
Good morning - can’t find any posts related to this (at least my searches aren’t bringing anything up). Neither holding tank will drain through the macerator system. I know there is a clog somewhere, and the tanks drain using the 3” hose, but when I try to drain using the macerator nothing comes out of either tank. I can hear the autodrain valves opening and closing, so the problem doesn’t appear to be there. The macerator is spinning, so I don’t think it’s in the macerator itself. Any thoughts/suggestions? We’re out on the road, so my resources are somewhat limited. TIA.

Found this tucked behind the shroud where the hood release is (I probably didn’t understand wher to look at first) - 5 amp fuse that looks good, but I don’t have any to swap out with it, and my tester is at home (of course). So I guess we go one more stop tomorrow night without levelers :(

I’m betting it’s on the other side of the cutout in the dash. I took the panel out, then dismounted the entire assembly from the dash, but didn’t see it. I’m afraid to yank too hard on the wiring until we get home - don’t want to inadvertently disconnect something else this far from home :)

I’m sure it’s got to be there, and is probably the problem. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

Pulled the panel but there was no fuse. I think it’s up behind the box in the rat’s nest of wires, and I’m not enough of a contortionist to get up in there. It doesn’t help that there is also wiring for an electric brake controller that the previous owner had installed for towing a horse trailer. It will have to wait until Friday when we’re home and I can get some help getting up in there.

Thanks for all the help folks!

Thanks Lance! I will look for the fuse up behind the control pad and see if it’s good. There are no lights coming on on the control pad - when I press ‘on’ nothing happens. The only light that is on is the separate ‘jacks down’ warning light, and it is on all the time. So it could very well be the fuse you have described. I’ll poke around in a little while - still recovering from the drive from Colorado Springs to Cherry Creek SP in Denver. Construction almost the entire way, and heavy traffic besides. Tension headache...  :)

General Discussion / HWH levelers stopped working
« on: June 29, 2020, 10:46:22 am »
Good morning - our HWH levelers have stopped working. The light is on that says the jacks are down, even though they are in the stored position, and the system will not turn on. I have a call in to HWH (made last Tuesday), but from past experience it is next to impossible to get in touch with an HWH technician. My guess is that it is a fuse, but I don’t know which one, and we’re on the road and on a schedule, so we don’t have the time to find an RV service, especially one that could look at it right away. Any thoughts on which circuit could be the culprit? We have a 2014 2552 on the Ford E450 chassis. Any clues would be appreciated - we’ll be home on Thursday, so could wait until we get back, but if it’s an easy fix, I would like to get them working again. Thanks - George.

Ron, can’t really speak to the Jeep or Honda specifically, but we used to tow a 2006 Saturn Vue AWD behind a 2006 2551, and then our current 2014 2552. Used the Invisibrake system, which worked well enough, but somewhere along the way it stopped trickle charging the battery in the Vue. The Vue started to nickel and dime us, so we replaced it with a 2018 Chevy Sonic (1.4L turbocharged 6-speed manual). Considered moving the Invisibrake to the Sonic, but the cost was going to be as much as a new Stay-n-play system. That’s what we went with along with a battery cut-off switch. We use a Falcon All-Terrain tow bar - the only thing there is the baseplate was a little difficult to install, and they had to cut 2 holes in the front fascia for the brackets. We’ve towed the Sonic about 4-5K miles and no problems other than a bad vacuum check valve. Set up to tow is a snap (the co-pilot thinks it’s easier than the Vue was 😊). And I don’t even notice that it’s back there.

Passed a PC this past Sunday just east of the Ohio - Indiana border on I-70 headed west. It was around 8:00 am. Looked like a newer 2551/2. We weren't in ours  :'(  Wondered who it was as we have only seen a handful while out and about.

Anyone use the iPad app from Rand McNally?  It looks interesting, but the few reviews on iTunes aren't exactly glowing.  Just wondering if anyone here can give us their thoughts from first-hand experience.

Thanks!

Aimee,

I would be happy to have the folks in the Omaha area look at our 2551 (we are in Omaha ourselves).  Unfortunately, our baby is in the shop right now, and I'm not sure when we'll get it back.  :'( If they can wait a little while, maybe we can set something up.

George,

Had what sounds like the same problem (no pun intended) about a year ago.  Ended up replacing the CCI alarm with a Safe-T-Alert one and have had no issues since.  It was about a ten minute job, very straight-forward (had to be for me to do it!).  However, the layout of our 2006 2551 may be a bit different - sounds like it may be a little harder to get at your unit.

Hope that helps.

George (from one to another)

I would be conducting a major symphony orchestra.  Of course with that kind of schedule, I wouldn't have time to enjoy my PC  :'(
