General Discussion / Ford Roadside Assistance

Has anyone used the free Ford Roadside Assistance? Is it a suitable substitute for FMCA or Sams type insurance during the Ford warranty period?

Question on installing a cutoff valve in the gas supply line.

Seams to me closing the valve while the generator is running would pull a vacuum on the carb and supply line shutting down the generator without getting all the gas out of the carb and line and the remaining gas could still gum up the carb? Posibiliy the gas could start to evaporate due to the lower pressure but I doubt there would be enough time for it all to get out before the generator stops. Perhaps a tee allowing air into the line when the block valve is closed would help get the gas out?

Thanks Dogyard, your right my 2019 does not have detachable connection, just pipe with glued coupling. Thank goodness!

Great job! I did something similar with 6" drain pipe that has 1" holes along the length of the pipe which lets the sewer hose dry while in the carrier.

Please tell us more about your problem with the Macerator. I don't know what the "ears" are.

Thanks

Has anyone come up with a remote flesh water level readout that can be read while standing at the water fill port?

Just received Epicord adapter from Amazon and it works! Can run either AC one at a time and all other 110v equipment work. Thanks for the suggestion DONC 13.

DONC13, thanks for your reply.
Wouldn't the 30a breaker on the campsite pedestal protect the cord in case of accidental overload?
The adapter you show looks exactly like what I need. Has anyone on this site used one and if so did it work ok?

Would it be possible to have both a 50a and a 30a connection on the coach so that the coach could be connected with either a 50a cord or a 30a cord (not both at the same time)?

My current coach (2552) has 50a service to support two ac units, but runs fine on 30a when not using the second AC which is most of the time. The 50a cord is very heavy stiff and hard to get in and out of the storage compartment and I would rather handle a 30a cord when 50a is not needed. I currently carry a 20 foot 30a cord as an emergency extension cord so an additional cord would not be needed.

How do you manage the holding tanks and macerator pump while dry camping?
I have the heated tank option but it runs the batteries down so fast it is useless without hookups.

I have had my 2019 PC 2552 with 1 foot add to length and Liquid Springs and Safety Steer for 10 months. One trip from TN to CO and back and several shorter trips ~9k miles in all.
This is the best riding and handling of the 7 rv's (spread over 50 years) I have had. Night and day better than the 2017 PC 2400 I traded in to get the 2552. Still not perfect but I love it.

In my experience GFI's and Inverters don't get along. I have had a number of MH's with various makes of inverters that tripped residential GFI's. Since the 30 and 50 amp outlets in campgrounds don't have GFI's we don't normally experience any problems. I believe the type of circuitry in the inverters causes the trips. I think this is normal and the inverter does not need to be replaced .

My 2019 PC 2552 which was built for the Hershey RV Show came with 2 Trojan 6v AGM batteries. The converter is built into a Progressive Dynamics Power Control Center Model PD4500. It is a 3 stage nonprogrammable unit with the following stages: Boost Mode 14.4 VDC for rapid charging, Normal Mode 13.6 VDC when batteries are in use but at or near full charge, and Storage Mode 13.2 VDC for batteries that are fully charged but haven't been used in the last 30 hours. Also when in the Storage Mode quote "the voltage will periodically increase to 14.4 VDC to help prevent sulfation of the battery plates".

The Trojan VRLA AGM battery spec sheet recommends that the charging voltage be between 14.1 and 14.7 VDC and the float voltage should be 13.5 VDC. It does not mention raising the voltage periodically to prevent sulfation.

Progressive recommends this converter for either wet cell or AGM batteries.

The power inverter is a separate Xantrex Pro Inverter model XM 1800.

So far everything is working very well.

I purchased a 2019 2552 that was built for the PA RV Convention. It has 2 6v AGM batteries and a Progressive Dynamics Inc Model PD4500 "Power Control Center" that I think is PC standard.  The control center is an all in one box with breakers, fuses, and converter built in. When I checked to see if the converter was properly programmed for the AGM batteries I was surprised to find that it is not programable. The converter specified output voltages (Boost Mode, Normal Mode, and Storage Mode) are not the same as the battery manufacture (Trojan) recommends.

I called Progressive Dynamics and they told me this converter is good for either lead acid or AGM batteries. Trojan was not familiar with the Progressive Dynamics converter and would not comment on its use. I have not talked to PC about this.

Any one have any info on this?
