General Discussion / Re: Dont make the same mistake and make PC mad

Thanks for the words of encouragement. At this point I would just be happy getting the motherboards and the paperwork back. Now that I know what I'm suppose to do, I can't do it.

I am not loosing sleep over the money and I'm not mad at PC . Probably somewhere in the 600 pages of stuff I'm suppose to read it might even cover what I was supposed to do in that situation. I am annoyed by the whole affair and disappointed in the service centers that smiled at me, the virgin new motor home buyer, as they guided me down the road that suited them best.(I have had several campers and travel trailers but never one that was brand new out of the box with warranties ) . If Atwood doesn't stand behind their products or trust their authorized dealers than maybe its time to look a  more reputable company. Being from Alaska I cannot think of a more important appliance to my well being and my motor homes well being when it is below zero than the furnace.
I hope someone can learn this lesson thru this post and not have to go thru the costly lesson I did.

General Discussion / Dont make the same mistake and make PC mad
« on: October 10, 2016, 04:43:01 pm »
Don’t make the same mistake I did and make Phoenix Cruiser mad.
Preface: I bought a new custom 2552 from PC in November 2015.
In January the heater goes out and I call PC and talk to Kermit, He informs me to take it to an Attwood Service center for repair. I do that and they replace the defective Motherboard and instruct me to pay the bill (which is around $500.00) and since the Motorhome was new I should send the bill and paperwork to Phoenix Cruiser for warranty reimbursement”.  I said ok and did not question this, I just was going to do what I was told (made sense at the time).
In March on my way back to Alaska just as we are about to cross the border into Canada the heater goes out again! I again call Kermit but he is not in. I think I have learned something by this point; gosh I even have all the blinking error codes memorized. I head back to Bellingham and start calling Authorized Attwood service centers and finally I find one that can get me in in two days. They service the heater and find the same thing; Defunct Motherboard. They replace it and expect payment and supply me with the paperwork and defunct motherboard to submit for warranty. At this point I don’t question it. I wonder why they don’t submit it themselves but I am new to this stuff so I just pay the bill and am glad to finally be on the road!
In March I get back home and box up both defunct motherboards and the original invoices from both dealers and send them off to Kyle for reimbursement. It has now been eight months and several cordial email exchanges to and from PC terminating with a very short and obviously annoyed email from Kermit in bold type on July 11,
" If these were handled by Attwood service centers why weren't the covered by Attwood directly?

Thank you,

Kermit Fisher

I responded explaining myself and my actions.
"Kermit,
Sorry if I handled this wrong, this was the first time I ever had warranty work done. I talked to you the first time the heater went out and you instructed me to seek an Attwood service center which I did. The gentleman there told me I should send the bill to you since the MH was still under warranty. Hell, I didn’t know what the protocol was and you didn’t mention it so (MY BAD) I assumed I was doing the right thing.  I did think it was extra red tape for you to have to send it to Attwood for reimbursement.  There is crazier stuff in life than that so I didn’t put much thought in it.
The second time the heater goes out in Bellingham Washington just as we are getting ready to cross the border to Alaska headed home. I called again but you were not in. From Past exp. I called an authorized dealer and they replaced the Motherboard gave me the paperwork they said I needed for warranty submittal but they expected payment immediately for services???? Again, I did not question this I paid the bill and was on my way!
I am not in a hurry for this money and to tell you the truth it isn’t worth the time I have spent explaining myself.  I  still don’t know how  to handle this kind of stuff or what amount of time is expected to see a refund. I can easily wait until Attwood pays you or I can just walk away in disgust and say forget it life is too short . Warranty will be up shortly and you won’t have to hear from me again so there is something to smile about!
Sorry for the trouble
Mark"

On August 6th I finally just asked for everything back:

" Kyle, could you please give me an update on this. If you guys are not going to handle this please send me all the paperwork and motherboards back and I will try to resolve this with Atwood".

I still have not heard a word. I hear all these great stories about how great these guys are and keep asking myself “is it me”. I was always polite in all my emails. I am still very happy with my PC. I have given up and will no longer worry about my thousand dollars, like I said “life is too short!”
I guess the only reason I am writing this is so others can benefit. I guess if I was stupid enough to do what everyone instructed me to do maybe there are a few others that could benefit and not make the same mistake.  I still don’t exactly know the proper way to handle this. Should I have demanded the service center to submit warranty, or should I just submitted it directly to Attwood? When the gentleman said “because your Motor Coach is less than two months old you should submit it to PC” I guess for some unknown reason that just seemed to make sense.

General Discussion / Re: Batteries - AGM, LFP, and Flooded Cell
« on: October 02, 2016, 08:39:06 pm »
Anytime! If I can help with anything else let me know. One of the things I did when making my decision on what brand to buy was I traveled around looking at older models to see how well they age. You can tell many things from this especially if you can distinguish between abuse, neglect, and wear and tear. I ended with a PC and money had nothing to do with it. So far so good. They were also  receptive to all my unusual requests.

No problems and I love mine!! This is my first rig with levelers and with how we travel and where we like to go I would never not have them now.

I cannot remember exactly what my amp hours were but I believe close to 500 Lead acid. 400 amp hours of lithium seems so much more than that its hard to believe. I had PC install a Lithium charger that I sent them but I wish I had not, its really a piece of crap. The nice thing about lithium is you can throw huge amounts of electricity at it to recharge fast. I put the largest charger in I could, the only trouble is it throws out 40 amps for about 30 secs, then starts heating up and then only throws about 13 amps for awhile and then drops down to 10 amps. I will eventually change it out but so far I have not needed it much. The 500 watt solar keeps them up and if I am moving the truck throws a constant 20 amps at it. Oh and I ordered the largest alternator Ford made for the 450.
They make some great Inverter chargers that are designed for Lithium that would have been great but I already had a GO Power 3000 watt pure sine inverter installed and I just couldn't bite off the change at the time. Starlite Solar out of Yuma can answer most of your questions are really great people to work with. They wont sell you anything you don't need.

I had PC  install he biggest battery tray they had and originally planned for the Batteries to be housed there. That tray held 4 six volt lead acid batteries when I left PC.  In Yuma I had my Lipo batteries installed and they talked me into putting them under the bunk since to put them outside would mean I would have to provide a heat source for times when the air temp dropped below freezing.
So far so good and I have even run the air conditioning unit off of them on several occasions. Our daylight hours in the summer here provide more power than we can use and running the air conditioner for an hour or more is not a problem.
I enclosed the outside battery tray with aluminum sheeting and made it weather resistant then installed a weather proof toolbox in the tray that can hold more weight than I can ever put into it.

General Discussion / Re: Check your HWH leveler reservoir

Thank you for posting this. I will check my cap today. I clean the reservoir frequently which seems like it is leeching fluid and collects dirt. The level is still in the ok zone but now I am wondering about the cap which I have never checked.

oh the mud! It is the main reason I wouldn't go back! Don't get me wrong, if I knew then what I know now I would still do it again.
The mud dries like a low quality concrete and builds like  stalagmites .. I spent a day and half flat on my back with a pressure washer eating it as I went.. I kept a ball of the wicked stuff in the garage just in case my memory fades and think about doing it again.

I am trying to learn how to post pictures. This photo was taken on our return from Deadhorse Alaska on the infamous Dalton Hwy.
No flat tires and no rock chipped windows,( which I guess is unheard of). A Beautiful trip and we are glad we did it but We wouldnt do it again. This has to be the ultimate test for a PC; over 800 miles of unpaved muddy road (round trip). The only problem we encountered was the front TV started coming down and we had to remove it before it fell. We saw over a 1000 caribou, two grizzlies, 40 musk oxen, six moose and 100s of other small animals. Gas in Deadhorse was $5.15 a gallon. We were there on the Equinox and 2:00 am was as bright out as 2:00 PM. Solar power was unbelievable, we were pulling in 10 amps at 10:00 pm.

General Discussion / Furnace inquiry
« on: April 21, 2016, 11:51:14 am »
Just wondering if anyone has had any furnace trouble? My furnace went out about a month into our trip and I took it in to a Atwood authorized dealer and the gentleman told me it was the motherboard that went out. Easy to fix, a  Little spendy but still under warranty.
Two months later it goes out again in Washington right before we head into Canada. We find a dealer in Washington, schedule an appointment and wait for two days to get in. He looks at it, test it and says "its the motherboard". I explained that I had just had it replaced! He tells me that he is not surprised and that the made in china MBs are crap. He goes in the back and comes out with a box full of made in China, Atwood MBs that they have had to replace. They replace mine with an American made DINO (made in USA)board which he claims is far superior and even a little cheaper.  He tells me that they have never had anyone come in with a bad Dino board.
Anyway, you never know what to believe and since that was all they carry we were happy just to get back on the road. My question to anyone reading this is; Has anyone else had this problem? He made it sound like it was very common.

Thanks for the propane graph. I do know I have used propane down to -40 with no problem. When my wife ask me if we had enough propane I told her with confidence we did. It registered almost a third of a tank at the bottle. When she woke me at 6:00 AM to tell me the furnace wasn't lighting I was surprised. We then scrambled to start the truck at get moving. I assumed the bottle was empty but when I went to fill it was reading 1/4 full. I suspect it was icing up from use and the pressure dropped. The furnace may have something on it that does not allow it to run once the pressure drops below a certain point, I really don't know. When I filled it I t only took six gallons in a 12 gallon tank. My last propane purchase was in Bellingham, maybe they slip in a little butane?

Yes. Sounds crazy up front and it is not for everybody but so far I couldn't be happier. I do admit I could have gotten by with 200 amps of battery just fine because I have yet to ever drop below 68% of my capacity and I don't conserve in anyway like I used to with my lead acid 6 volts. That's also running in the cold with the heater running all night, Watching the big sceen, microwaving popcorn, what ever. The other BIG seller for me was the weight reduction. I had 4, 6 volt batteries I think they weighed 240 lbs. My new batteries weigh right around 100 lbs and have almost twice the usable capacity of my 6 volt batteries. I would have had to have around 360 lbs, of lead acid batteries to equal what I have now.
One last Kudos to PC with a little anti freeze in my shower drain and ran some thru the mercerator pump along with a some in the grey and Black I was able to hang out in temps to -6 F with no problems. The only thing that you have to watch is the propane isn't  very efficient at those temps and if your tank falls below 1/4 you will run out of propane.
