Every time we return from a trip I hand wash the PC with Blue Coral car wash.  This includes the fiberglass roof.  Also, I make sure any sap, leaves, bird droppings, stains etc are removed and everything else on the roof is clean before I put it back in the garage waiting for our next trip.

We've washed it twice already-partly due to the birds that land on the top rail and poop!

We envy those who have a garage to put it in and don't have to pay for storage.

I wash and wax my motorhome using "Gel-Gloss Heavy duty RV Wash & Wax". http://www.gel-glossrv.com/index.php?pageId=393.  I start at the top on the roof by climbing up there and using a long handle brush, then back on the ground I do the sides. I have never needed to hand wax my motorhomes as this stuff leaves a really good shine. There are several products by Gel-gloss including a couple of waxes. Someday I may try the cleaner & wax or the straight wax they sell, but for now I am happy with just washing it and having it wax itself. I can get very lazy sometimes. roflol

Ok, I have to admit I send my kid up there and hand him the pressure washer(low psi) and he cleans it very gently.  Oh how nice to have kids....

Then we put back in its garage...

I thoroughly hand wash the roof (entire outside) with a moppy covered sponge and any "made of cars" type of soap.  Done once a year at the end of the season.  It's enough work at once a year.  I do quick washes in-between, and once during a trip when a mega bug bath has occurred.

    Has anyone tried to use a car wash bay to wash their PC?

    Last September while on a trip to Yellowstone my PC got really dirty and their were car wash bays in town. I kept looking at them wondering if I could fit under the wash arm but I could not find any signs giving the max high allowed. Since my PC is on the E-450 the specs say it is 10' 1" high, 2 inches higher than the E-350. I have occasionally seen over sized bays for larger vehicles but these were the standard size. It sure would be nice to be able to use a car wash bay while on trips when it gets really really dirty.

Don't truck stops sometimes have those big truck washes next to them?  I thought I'd seen that before for truckers to wash their rigs. RV's would fit in there, for sure, right?

We have friends that wash their motorhome all the time in what us old timers call the quarter car wash (which is now $1.75).  I use the following simple go/no go measurement on the entry, exit and the wash arm.  I am 6 ft and  if I stand flat footed with my arm extended over my head and a yardstick in my hand the tip of the yardstick is around 10'4".  This provides me the necessary go/no go measurement.

    Yes Aimee truck stops sometimes have truck washes but they are not always where you want them when it comes time to wash the motorhome. The other problem is that they tend to use very harsh chemicals to wash with. Back when I was a working man, I came in contact with a lot of truck drivers and when I asked about using the truck stop wash, they all said they would not want to do that to their paint jobs. I know there are some real pretty trucks out there but I don't know if they use the truck stop wash bays.

    Barry I do like your yard stick trick. Now I guess i will have to get a yard stick for the motorhome. What percentage of the car wash bays to you find you can use for the PC?

I always enjoy reading posts by you entergetic rv owners.  I keep my 2551 in totally enclosed storage, so it stays pretty clean in the base case.  After our annual long trip, usually to the Banff area of Canada, I call my friendly local detail guy who spends his spare time on the internet researching what treatments are best for every surface on a vehicle.  He will hand wash and wax (multiple coats) with premium products for about $140 or so.  Doing this once a year leaves such a smooth coat that only a gentle hosing off will get most dirt off.  If you can find a really good detailer, it'll do wonders for your coach.

Trust me when I say my PC is better off with a professional working on it than me.  Basically, he washes and hand waxes three coats of quality wax on all the fiberglass surfaces including the roof.  He also dresses the tires and polishes all the chrome or stainless surfaces.  When he's finished, it looks like it just drove out of the factory.  He also does my cars about once a year.  I have never washed and waxed a vehicle and had it come out looking like it does when he does it.  The interesting story is that he had a pretty good job and lost it in the early days of the recession, so he turned his hobby of detailing into a full time job.  With all us old retirees here in Hot Springs Village with RVs and cars, he has a very lucrative business now.  Shows what happens if you lose a job but have the drive to find a niche that needs to be filled.
