Mascerator hose durability
« on: October 25, 2026, 06:59:01 pm »
Again I am a fairly new PC owner and have only had to dump using the Mascerator twice so far. First time was at  a RV park and had no problems. Second time was last week at home while preparing to winterize. My previous motorhome was an Itasca Suncruiser. For dumping at home I always used a portable Mascerator that attached to the normal dump connection on the motor home and was powered by 12 volts. I would attach a garden hose to the Mascerator and run the other end through a bathroom window directly into the toilet. I thought I could do the same routine with the built-in Mascerator and hose on the PC. I thought that was what the garden hose fitting on the end of the Mascerator hose was for. That turbo pump must produce a lot of pressure because as soon as I turned on the pump, the Mascerator hose exploded in two places. Fortunately I was only emptying mostly water and antifreeze and everything was outside or it could have been really messy. This is a used 2022 PC but the Mascerator hose looked good and worked fine at the RV park. Has anyone else had a problem with the Mascerator hose springing a leak?

In a pinch I have done the same.. I have a half bath not far from the driveway and emptied the tanks in the same manner you described. I was worried about it leaking, but all went well... At that point the hose was the original 10yo that came from the factory. I'm so sorry to hear this nightmare materialized for you. At least it wasn't terrible terrible if you know what I mean. .

Since that, I have replaced the hose... I actually bought 2 and they came with a coupler to join them end to end.. And I had a sewer dump next to my driveway added.. I was lucky that the main was about 10ft away and needed cleaning out, so I had the plumber dig his hole where it served the RV best. I covered the 4 inch cap with a sprinkler valve niche and nobody has ever noticed it.

The only thing I can think of is that I used a  25ft 3/4 inch garden hose, with the thought that a 1/2 inch and/or longer hose might constrict the floor too much.   What size was your hose?

An interesting subject with an interesting reply.

As LRUCH wonders, the diameter of the garden hose could influence the back pressure in the macerator's stinky slinky.  A narrow 1/2" garden hose may restrict flow enough to expand the slinky to the point of failure.  A wide 3/4" garden house might avoid a build-up of damaging back pressure to the macerator's stinky slinky.

FWIW: Our original 2007 macerator's stinky slinky is still in operation though it had sprung two pin-hole leaks over the years.  Upon discovery, I sealed them using a dab of silicone caulk which has been lasting many years, so the caulk seems to be a viable method of repair.

 >:(I adapted a 5/8 garden hose.  Works well but takes up a lot of space.  If I did it again, I’d buy the OEM hose and put a ballistic cover on it.  You can find them on Amazon fairly cheap.  Good luck & Happy Trails!
