help needed 2350 electric awning addition

I have a 2005 2350 , originally had the box awning and then some previous owner replaced that with a Dometic manual awning. I would like to install a power awning but because of the tapered shape not sure what to order. current awning is good if I can just buy power arms. Willing to buy complete new awning if necessary.

What brand does a current 2350 on the Ford chassis use?

I asked Google "how to convert a manual rv awning to electric" and it suggests to replace the roller with a motorized roller, or replace the arms with motorized arms.  My 2010 has a dometic awning (of the same year) with the motorized arms and no problems with it.... So far.  My thoughts are that a same brand conversion would reduce the chance of additional/new holes in the side of the coach for the arms... You would only add a hole at the top front(right) end for the new wires to control it.


I think it is worth contacting Dometic to see what they suggest. I would think the answer is going to depend upon the model and year of your existing awning, so have a picture of it as well as any stickers/numbers/labels included in the request.


I wish I could offer more, but I've never encountered this idea before.

Call Phoenix on what to order.  It is possible that Phoenix installs a made-for-Phoenix awning to accommodate the non-flat wall, or they install a standard awning but utilize two additional custom-made filler pieces to work with the wall.  I found this picture on-line which shows what appears to utilize filler pieces.



The easy solution is to install another box awning, but naturally you will miss out on the conveniences.

Back in 2005, it was popular for Phoenix to install a short box awning.  We paid extra in 2007 to have the box awning cover across nearly the entire side of our 2350 which is very nice that it covers the bedroom window and the storage compartment below it.  Here is our box awning closed-up.  My point is "bigger is better."



The convenience of a fully electric awning is hard to beat, but I like the clean lines without the tracks and all the extra mounting holes in the body.  I have no ladder of roof rack for the same reasoning.

Thanks for the suggestions, the absolute cheapest way would be to purchase the Lippert (Solera) short arms (62") and keep my existing awning and hopefully be able to get the shims from the factory. BTW if money is no object there is a motorized box awning available from Carefree but it is very expensive. I'll follow up when I've made the changes.

I can agree on the "bigger is better" desire.  I have a 16 foot awning on my 30 foot PC.  I wish it was longer and covered the last 7 foot as well. That bedroom window at the back gets a lot of Texas sun (or rain). ... However, I do tend to set up my gas grill at that end and it probably wouldn't be good for the awning to be over it and get exposed to heat and smoke.  I also suspect that my rear storage door was installed so close to the rear end cap that there is no room for the arm. Something to consider if you get an awning with support arms.
