Downsizing/Exterior storage/propane grill preference
« on: May 31, 2024, 07:45:34 pm »

I’m new to the forum and this is my first post so here goes.
My wife & I have been in motor homes since the 80’s mostly Class C’s and for last 12 years a Tiffin Breeze diesel pusher.
When we saw the 2910D it checked all the boxes. We’re dealing factory direct with Tina at PC in Elkhart and our experience has been great. The unit is due for completion in September and we will pick it up at the factory.
My problem is not eliminating at the stuff I carried around in the Tiffin but how to use the 2 exterior storage compartments with the 8” openings.
What do carry in them?
I’ll also need a smaller propane grill any recommendations?
How do you use the rear drawer storage compartment ?
Looks like the only place for a couple of chairs.
I’m really looking forward to downsizing and getting back into the Ford chassis that I missed so much on my class C;
and we’re looking forward to being
part of the PC community.
Thanks for your suggestions
Regards
Charlie Lisa

We don't grill so I can't help you there.  For the rear storage area (passenger side), I carry water hoses and 120V extension cord with a few misc things in the drawer/bin.  On the shelf above, I carry my tools and an air compressor.  The two smaller storage bins on either side don't have a lot.  The driver's side is under the slide so it carries beach shoes, hitch with ball, and the emergency gravity waste hose.  The passenger side carries wheel chocks, boards to put under the jacks, and a few other misc items.

Welcome
We use a Cuisinart grill, model CGG-059 with a 5 lb. propane tank.
The small Blackstone griddle also fits but not at the same time.  Don has other things in there but that is his domain so I can't tell you much more.

Welcome Charlie and Lisa!

I can't help you with what grill to buy given each model has it's own unique storage limitations.

One thing I recommend, is to see if Phoenix can replace the standard "E" rated tires with those higher load "E" rated, C 121 tires that increases the rear axle capability by 2200 pounds.  I have been reading of tire blow-outs on model 2910D, 2910T and 3100 because of the weight in back during trips.  The trip-load weight can exceed the standard "E" rated tires in back.  When a rear tire blows, a lot of damage happens to the PC.  Maybe Phoenix can accommodate such a request in your special order without it costing too much extra.  If I were ordering one of those 3 models, I would insist on a set of six C 121 tires.  Though I prefer MICHELIN AGILIS CROSSCLIMATE 225/75R16C 121/120R E TIRES, I would settle for just about any brand over the best standard "E" tires.

Hello Charlie & Lisa, Welcome up the forum and congrats on the new 2910D.

I have 2900D which is similar in storage layout as I added another compartment on the driver's side in the same place as yours. In that compartment I carry all of my "connections": coach power cord/surge protector/adapters/extension cord, water hose/filter/pressure regulator/filter, TV coax cable, etc.  Across the bottom I have 4 2x8 boards-about 20" long, that I can put under the tires or the hwh jacks when the ground is soggy. That way everything I need when setting up (or packing up) is on the service side of the RV.  I extend the slide above it last,,, and it's the first one I retract, all so that I can get to the storage easy.

In the passenger side front compartment I store everything I need for the table or for my bike, and things that I would want while under the awning: tablecloth/clips, table light, Mosquito candles, bug spray, bear spray, security cable & padlock, sun screen, fly swatter, and a few games. I also have a windshield washer/squeegee and a tire gauge in there.

In the big right rear compartment I store my Nexgrill 2 burner propane grill in the drawer. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Nexgrill-2-Burner-Portable-Propane-Gas-Table-Top-Grill-in-Stainless-Steel-820-0033/206023898
If fits perfectly in the drawer (if you pull off & store the knobs separately). It uses the coach propane tank via a quick connect just in front of the drawer.  https://a.co/d/4htU3EB

Also in the drawer I carry 2 door mats, grill tools (in a sealed bag) , 15 ft propane extension hose & quick connect  Y, electric Mosquito killer lights, 1 quart each of ford oil, generator oil, hwh oil,,, and anything or that is "dirty".

On the shelf above I carry 4 wheel chocks, 2 folding camp chairs and 2 oversized float noodles, and in cooler weather I add a Amazon 19" fire pit.
https://a.co/d/f2YkxT0

The rear compartment is used least. I keep a 25ft 14ga extension cord, a rope and 2 folding tables https://www.campingworld.com/quik-fold-side-table-629957.html?dwvar_629957_color=charcoal&cgid=folding-tables

The two things I carry inside that goes outdoors are a folding patio rug and a screen room that attaches to the awning. I put them in the storage under the bed..... And I only take it them when they are needed so that storage is frequently empty.

I hope that helps,,, feel free to ask questions.
Larry

Thank you one and for the suggestions. No doubt in my mind we’ll have plenty of room for the essentials with some space to spare.

I use a Coleman grill stove, that has one regular burner. I ran a 1/4" copper line to right next to the small side compartment, added a ball valve that I can reach in front of the tire. Ends at  a bulkhead fitting to attach a long high pressure propane hose that can reach to a table. In that small compartment I fit my 2 - 30 amp electric cables and two water hoses.

Hey John,

Do you have a regulator on your grill? It looks like your tee is before the coach pressure regulator and the emergency shut off valve.   You basically have high pressure LP in that hose.

Coleman Grills only work with high pressure, and all have regulators. The hose was fabricated by a propane supply and is designed for high pressure. This is the third RV I used this sytem on.

John & Lisa:

We have a 2013 2910T & store our grill in the right rear compartment.  We have a Weber Q100 propane model & if you remove the handle, it stores easily in either the upper shelf or in the bottom drawer.

My wife & I have been in motor homes since the 80’s mostly Class C’s and for last 12 years a Tiffin Breeze diesel pusher.
If I were a lover of diesels, and my garage could accommodate it, I would consider a used mini diesel pusher Tiffin Allegro Breeze 28br, the smaller 29.6 foot long one (a later, better chassis model year) that they stopped making for some years now.  The 28br is 14" shorter than a PC2910.  Even the longer 31br model is 31.2 feet long, only 8" longer than a 2910 series PC.

I am curious as to why you are finished with your Tiffin Allegro Breeze.  Are you simply ready to make a change?

Heed my advise about the tires in my earlier reply.

Hi Ron just getting back you regarding your question about our tiffin breeze. It was well built and similar in quality to the PC (we’re still waiting for ours hopefully the build completion January 2025) I’ve had a couple of class C’s the last a mini Winnie with a 460 ford. I really missed the handling & power.  The tiffin was grossly underpowered, needed to upgrade steering & the maxx force 7 engine (Navistar) has a litany of problems with emissions & turbo etc from 2011-2014. They stopped making this engine in 2015 & class action suits followed. If you’re considering a Tiffin Breeze in these years with the Maxx force engine Don’t. The PC handles & rides like sport car compared to the tiffin. Yes we’ll miss the storage, anir suspension and space but it’s time to downsize. The maintenance on the diesel was also excessive and although Tiffin did have a great support system since their sale to Thor in 2020 things have changed not for the best. I did look into the tires as you suggested and unfortunately at this point not able to upgrade them. Thanks for the advice. Hope to see you on the road.

Thank you for your detailed reply.  I did not realize the engine was such a very serious matter in the 2011-2014 model years.  I wonder if 2015 was any better.

Regardless, I am never making any such change.  Our wonderful 2007 PC-2350 is our last motorhome.  The next one will be driven on heavenly highways, if God has highways up there.
