120v AC system on 2022 2552
« on: November 25, 2023, 08:09:29 pm »
We travel with a small parrot and are reluctant to use the furnace because birds are very sensitive to potential fumes.
We have two safe-for-birds electric heaters (120vac,1200 watts each) that we would like to use.
When plugged in to 50 amp service, can I plug in the two electric space heaters at the same time?

Those are 10A each. Plugging one heater into a 120v inverter circuit socket and the other into a regular 120v ac socket  should provide plenty of margin.

Remember that the shore power hookup  is only 30A total. When you need to use the microwave oven turn off one of the heaters.
Also look up the specs for your water heater. My 6 gallon Atwood draws 11 Amps, so in that case you would always run it on propane instead of electric.

Undetected Teflon fumes are extremely deadly to our little  feathered buddies , so if you use the stovetop be extra careful about what kind of pans you have. Same with hair dryers and curling irons. Good looking out!

Agree with CalCruiser.  The A/C circuits in the Phoenix Cruisers are 20-amp circuits.  Theoretically, you could plug both 10-amp heaters into one circuit and not exceed ratings, however it's never a good idea to push the limits when there are other options.  By plugging each heater into a separate circuit, you are using only 50% of circuit ampacity, and can then use each circuit for up to 10-amps worth of "other stuff" as well.
Since the regular A/C feed powers all circuits, but the inverter only selected circuits, by selecting one inverter circuit and one regular circuit you can be sure you're using two different circuits without having to try to figure out what is what.

The RV furnace is a sealed unit like any furnace at home. Should not be a hazard.

The burners on your stove do give off CO gas. These should not be used.

I just want to share this story which implies otherwise.

During our maiden voyage in 2007, the very first time we tried using our furnace, it did not work.  During my investigation as to why, I removed the outside furnace exhaust and fridge panels...in my 2007 2350 with no slideout, the furnace is located under the fridge.  I found a suspecting switch located inside the fridge panel, switched it, and the furnace started working.  Before I could mount the furnace exhaust panel back on, Irene was yelling that exhaust fumes were pouring inside the motorhome.

We quickly learned that the furnace's exhaust cover plate is critical to be installed or fumes will flood the interior.  There is foam gasketing on the inside of that cover plate.  It has always been on my mind that with age, if that gasket becomes unable to provide a good seal, we could possibly get asphyxiated.  I feel this is one reason why the carbon monoxide detector is so critical to work properly.

On our 2007 2350 here, you can see the furnace panel located directly below the fridge panel.  I share this for clarity on their relationship to eachother.

Thanks for the input.  How do I distinguish between inverter AC outlet and regular AC outlet?

With no A/C applied to the coach (not plugged in--no generator--basically with the RV just parked and off), turn on your inverter.  The A/C outlets that have power are inverter supplied; the others are not.

Mikeh,
Thanks for the reply; such a simple solution!
