Euro Leather (aka Pleather) seat covers flaking
« on: April 17, 2023, 08:55:02 pm »
The cab seats in our 2010 2551 are flaking faster and faster, look pretty crappy.  I contacted Paul at Paul's Seating; he said he received the seats from Phoenix at that time, and upholstered them.
He also said he no longer does business with Phoenix.
So I contacted Dave at the PC factory, he said he wasn't around that far back, but guesses that if Paul didn't provide them, they are probably the factory seats from Ford?

I'm asking because to order aftermarket seat covers, I would need to know if these are factory seats, or some other aftermarket seat.
I've heard that the cab/chassis that Phoenix gets from Ford comes with a throwaway chair for driver side, and RV factories add the final seat.

Does anyone know where Phoenix might have been getting their seats back in 2010?
My alternative is to drop the seats at an auto upholstery shop, but I live in Hawaii and my RV is stored in Oregon, so the logistics of that are less desirable.

Paul's may not be doing business with Phoenix anymore, but I believe they provided seats to Phoenix back then.  I know the seats in my 2015 model were made by Paul's.

Our 2350 2008 and 2551 2012 both had Paul’s seating.  Kermit had him replace the skins on our 2012 but they flaked as well.  We had them reupholstered at an auto shop two years ago.

I ordered a 3rd captain's chair with 2 arm rests to replace the barrel chair. I was in Elkhart and ordered the chair in person at Paul's May 2nd 2022.

Everything seemed fine and it would be ready "in a couple months at most". That was fine as I was in no hurry.  My original seats evidently had the same problem (2010 model), but the previous owner had them recovered by Paul already... As he remembered my RV.  They even had a remnant roll of the pleather to match. I was thrilled.  The sides of the cabinets are starting to look bad... So I will need to work on that next winter.

I followed up in July, August, etc.. Basically monthly. Each time there was more resistance to deliver a chair.  I was determined to have a 3rd MATCHING chair.  And they mentioned they were not working with Phoenix anymore. I pointed out that the purchase agreement was btwn me and them.  Not Phoenix.  Finally in March 2023 I begged. It worked.  They found the fabric (it was cut back in September) and assembled it. I got it 1st week of April.   11 months of persistance paid off.

In summary, it might be possible to get them to work on your seats, BUT (A) it won't be easy, and (B) you'll be without the seats for months.  I agree with previous suggestions... Find a local shop to re-cover them.

Larry,

We recovered all the sides of our cabinets ourselves.  Very pleased with the outcome.  Intimidating at first but then it was enjoyable.

Apologies for taking this thread sideways, but any advice (or pics)? Especially for the leather between some cabinets? Did you take the cabinets off the walls/ceiling?

I'm a bit intimated to take it apart at first glance. The new padding and fabric seem to be the easy part.

Aloha Larry...   Thanks for your inputs... and that was quite an ordeal getting your 3rd seat !!!

I also believe, as others have indicated, that Paul's provided the PC seats back in 2010.  Not sure why he would deny that now, but it appears there has been a serious falling out between Paul's and Phoenix recently.

I guess my best option is to find a good auto upholstery shop in Portland, OR area, and have them redone between our trips.
We live in Hawaii, and the PC has a semi-permanent home in Tualatin, OR, south of Portland.
We typically make two trips/year, May-June and Sept-Oct.  I tend to avoid the summer months because campgrounds are so crowded then.

Thanks (Mahalo) to all for your inputs !!

Larry,

The very first cabinet we (driver's side by slideout) we took off.  Found it was alot easier to not remove the cabinet.  We just loosened them up and slid the upholstered piece out and back in.  We also did not replace the padding.  The padding was in great shape.  I will send you pictures in a couple of days.  I have to download them off my phone.  I did post some on the facebook page so you might be able to search for them there.  Yes, it was intimidating at first but then we actually enjoyed the challenge.  It does take two people and alot of pictures so you can refer back to the original folds.  Also do not throw the old ones out till you are finished incase you need to refer to them or recut a piece.  They make good patterns (I traced them on the new fabric and then cut them out).
