How to replace coaxial cable in 2015 2552

Our 2015 2552 seems to have a bad coaxial cable.  We just returned from a trip where we had to bypass the external connection near the power plug on the driver’s side and run some coaxial cable through the driver’s window and connect to the tv with a splitter. This “bandaid” worked just fine, we just lost a whole lot of “cool points” in the campground.  I’m wondering if I could connect a new coaxial cable to the current one, using a simple extension connector, and then pull the new cable through using the original cable?  Also, how long is the original coaxial cable?  Has anyone had this issue, or has anyone had a similar experience?  Looking forward to a simple solution.

It is very unlikely that you would be able to pull one through using the existing cable, there a probably several tight twists and turns.

Cable inside a the body shouldn't just go bad without something pinching them severely of cutting them.  They are pretty tough cables.

The first thing I would try would be replacing the connectors on the ends.

If your 2015 is wired the same as our 2007, the first place to look is in the over-head cabinet to the right of the main TV.  There is a built-in TV signal booster in there.  Make sure it is turned on.  It has a push button on/off.  I think the button illuminates red when turned on.  It is remotely possible that moving stuff inside that cabinet, accidentally pushed that button, turning off the booster, killing the signal.

I opened that box once and found everything inside it to be extremely tight.  If checking connections, I suggest to start inside that box.

I agree with parkgt.  I would not expect success in pulling through a new cable the way you hope to.

I would add, the light (on the TV signal booster in the upper right cabinet) needs to be ON if using the roof antenna and OFF if using the external cable connection. If reversed it will appear to the TV as if no signal at all. I'm probably just stating the obvious, but it has caught me at times the few times I connect the cable.

Unfortunately, the only simple solution is if you forgot to turn the signal booster off when hooked to the external cable connection.  That, or your jumper cable from the pedestal to the external connector on the PC is defective.  Third easiest solution is to pull the signal booster and make sure the 3 coax runs to the bottom of the booster have not become loose.  Of those 3 wires, one runs from the external coax connector, one runs from the outside TV antenna and the 3rd goes to the TV's coax connector.

You say you added a splitter to your TV's coax input connector.  Did you first try to run your "bandaid" cable to the signal booster input that is next to the power button?  If that didn't work, it would lead me to look at the cable from the booster to the TV.  A quick test for that is to try the over the air antenna.  Unless you are in the middle of nowhere, you should at least get a few local TV stations.

I agree with the earlier comment that you won't be able to pull a new cable thru using the old cable and that it's quite rare for a coax cable to just fail, unless some rodent tried to eat it.  Pull the external cable hookup and look inside it, is the inside connection tight and free of corrosion?

OH, forgot to tell you, you can get to the inside of the external coax  connector real easily from under the driver's side bed.  There is a plywood cover on the front of the underbed storage area that comes off easily via a couple of screws and gets behind the external coax connector.

Thanks for all of the detailed responses. I have checked the cable connections at each end of the “internal” cable and for all three cables that connect to the back of the cable/antenna plate mounted to the forward wall over the passenger seat. All were tight.  I made sure that the signal booster was turned off when using cable. FWIW, it works great when the signal booster is turned on while using the roof antenna. I also agree that the internal cable should be good.  My next step is to figure out how to get a signal through the internal coaxial cable to see if it passes the signal along.  I might also look into bypassing the wall mounted signal booster to see if that may be an issue. Barring a visit from Ian this week, I may be able to sort things out over the next few days.

If replacing the F connectors on the cable ends doesn’t solve it maybe the connector on the exterior hookup plate is corroded? Check it  by removing the cable from the back side and using a barrel splice instead.
