Fit to be tied - cat gone AGAIN!
« on: April 30, 2022, 11:42:57 am »
Well this makes the third time at the same storage facility. Double gated with entry codes. Had a Cat Clamp on this time. Didn't seem to matter. GONE!
Police seem to think it is an inside job by one of the other tenants. Found this out yesterday evening as we went to retrieve it to start packing to leave Monday morn. Filed insurance claim this morn and then cancelled our reservations for Crooked River SP, and others along the way. Guess we'll spend our 51st anniversary sitting on our patio dreaming & wishing. Repair shop doesn't open till Monday and I hope they can get the parts quick enough so we can at least salvage part of the trip. Otherwise it's cancelling more reservations.
I bought the top of the line Cat Clamp supposedly with life time warranty. We''ll see come Monday when I call.
Just wondering if anyone else has had an issue with CatClamp and just what their solution was.
Thanks for letting me rant. Just a bit p***ed off right now.
Camp on, & be safe.
Jack is what we call our PC 2351D, and he has taken us from campers to RV'ers and loving it. We're no longer Team Bob. Just Jack the RV!

Sorry that this happened to you again.  Nothing is safe.  Are you able to get your money back from the Cat Clamp company?  Their website says they cover the Cat Clamp if stolen but not the catalytic converter.

Well that just sucks. Sorry you had to  TOFTT with the Cat Clamp.

You could go catless if  your state doesn’t require smog inspections. HP Tuners VCM software can disable the  O2 sensors. Check with them to see if the 2015 6.8 E-Series license (the last year for the vans)  is compatible with later model E450’s. Shops that specialize in tuning high performance Mustangs or diesel pickups should be able to do it. Otherwise it’s expensive if you have to buy your own copy of the VCM suite in addition to the license.

Wow that really is a shame! I was looking at the cat clamp after your last episode and thought it would be a good idea.  I guess that it doesn't work so I will just save my money and take my chances.  Again sorry to hear that you had to deal with theft of the cat.

Very Respectfully
Lance

Wow!  Gary, I don't know what to say!
I'm pretty easy going, but even I would be getting irritated about now.

You would think that some well placed video cameras (feeding a remote recorder) at the storage facility could shed some light on the "inside job" theory as a minimum.  Even better if their entry code system tracked which tenant was coming in when.  Seems that the facility should bear some responsibility for security for their tenants.  I hope they're at least taking this seriously.

Wish I had some helpful input, but you have followed the route I think most of us would have taken--and it came up short.  I sure hope you guys can get some of your trip in.
Mike

I suggest getting the local/regional newspaper involved. If they do a story about the thefts and ask that anyone that saw anything step forward, you might get a break. It's a slim chance but it could put the heat on whoever is doing it.

What is the response from the storage facility? Have they reached out to the other tenants? It is my opinion that they should 1) notify the other tenants of the thefts; 2) ask if anyone saw anything; 3) install security cameras. If their reply is: "not our problem", find another facility. And let the newspaper know that too. I understand not at fault and not liable but don't care isn't acceptable.

After my winter trip I took my RV to the same storage facility that I always use, after 2 days my catalytic converter was stolen along with 7 others. The lot said one was stolen for a second time, they recommended putting in a straight pipe in place of the converter but nobody was willing to break the law and do this.
The storage lot which is gated and videoed offered to pay my deductible and not charge me for the past 2 months. However I am unwilling to risk another theft. After I get it replaced I am going to take my PC to my cabin on a private street in WV. I hope it is safer, I will have to wait and see,  :'(
