Holding Tanks & Long Term Stay
« on: August 31, 2021, 09:51:29 am »
We will be staying for a month with FHUPS. I would like for the gray water to drain freely. Will the gray water drain freely through the macerator hose if the gray valve is left open? If using a stinky/slinky does the gray water macerator valve stay open with the red light blinking? Our gray tank fills up after 3 showers & I don't want to dump every other day. I have tried using the search system without results. This is our first macerator system & still trying to learn the correct hook up procedures. I understand the benefits of the using the gray water to clean after dumping the black tank. Our Class A had a 60 gal gray holding tank----learning to live with 18 1/2 gal tank----just one of the disadvantages of down sizing. Thanks for your replies, Chuck :)

Chuck,

I only use the macerator system so can't address your question #2.  However I can say that on my 2019 2552 the gray water does drain freely through the macerator hose with the gray valve open.  Just parked for a week in this configuration with steady water use, and I always use this method when on full hookups.  The gray tank won't read empty; it may show close to full--but I've never had it back up into the shower pan.

We have a 2013 so our macerator is not a flow-through like the newer models. Long term camping means stinky slinky. Yes red light keeps blinking as long as gray valve is open. We close the tank and let it fill before departure so we can flush a full tank of gray through the black on our final dump but otherwise it remains open for months.

We did have several failures on our stinky slinky this year. I've been thinking it is due to months of intense sun. I haven't researched cost comparisons on replacing hoses for the macerator or 3" slinkies but we now have over 30' of new slinky hoses.

I use the slinky outlet only with a 5/8 inch hose connected to it and the other end in the receptacle for the sewer at the campsite.   I just leave the gray tank open with the black tank closed.   When the black needs dumping, I then close the slinky opening and use the macerator to pump out the black tank.   That way, the gray is always running into the sewer and the black goes through the macerator when it needs to be dumped, which can be a several days with the 35 gallon black tank.

Have I had trouble with the 5/8 hose clogging?   No.

My slinky outlet has this kind of cap to accommodate the 5/8 :   https://www.amazon.com/Camco-Durable-Connection-Connection-39463/dp/B000BQKBP2/ref=sr_1_43?crid=1XJM4A7G9T9R2&dchild=1&keywords=rv+dump+hose+accessories&qid=1630460788&sprefix=rv+dump+%2Caps%2C203&sr=8-43

We have a 2020 Model 2552 Cruiser that we bought new.  I use the slinky outlet most of the time.  Leave the grey valve open and close when black tank is near the time to empty, then empty black followed be grey.  I installed a piece of tubing on the back of the camper under the window to hold the slinky.  I carry 2 ten foot sections in that and one more ten foot section in the big storage compartment.  I almost never use the macerator system.

Just curious, why wouldn't (almost never) use the macerator?  It is so much faster and cleaner to use.  I can have both tanks Full and from the time I get out of the driver's seat at the dump site, until I get back in and drive off is less than 5 minutes.
