Entertainment System Wires
« on: July 02, 2021, 09:37:57 am »
I finally got a new entertainment system (Jensen JWM62A)  to replace the original Executive system.  I have wired cars, trucks, RV's etc but the wires in this RV are a little different.  I have all the speaker wires labeled.  There is a very small, maybe 16 guage, black wire.  that is not labled.  I am thinking that maybe it is the radio antenna wire, but not sure.
Also, there is an 8mm connector laying around the floor area underneath the refrigerator.  Is this where the factory sub woofer was installed?  I ask because the current sub is underneath the corner bed.

Thanks, Bob

Hi Bob,

Our 2350 is one model year older than yours and we have the Executive Stereo as well, so I think I can help.

Yes, that thin black wire is an antenna, not sure if it is AM or FM or both.  I have a small free-standing antenna in the cabinet above the Executive.  It has been a long time so I can't remember if the antenna was original, or if I installed it.  It resembles THIS ONE.

I assume you have the same whole house Tripp-Lite inverter we have.  The small head phone jack hanging under your fridge has nothing to do with your subwoofer.  CLICK HERE and read through the post.  It explains the benefit in having that connector disconnected from the side of the Tripp-Lite Inverter's Control Panel.  I disconnected mine a long time ago and it remains disconnected to benefit boondocking which we primarily do.

As you know, the Execute is a DVD player, not Blu-Ray.  It would be nice to have a Blu-Ray player.  One thing certain, DVD quality is excellent on our 26" screen.  We just can't select from our entire DVD/Blu-Ray collection to bring on trips.

One other complaint we have with the Executive is the lack of user-friendliness, but we manage with that deficiency.  Maybe one day I will find an exceptional easy-to-use replacement AM/FM/CD/DVD/Blu-Ray unit to fit in that space.  I admit it is not very high on my priority list.....not yet anyway.  It would quickly move to the top if the Executive unit dies.

Ron,  Thanks for the response.   I had a hunch and hope that you would answer.   You answered my questions as usual.   Here's what I am installing:
 https://www.crutchfield.com/S-jfy21Q9dtQc/p_522JWM62A/Jensen-JWM62A.html

I connected it up temporarily and all functions worked.   I won't miss the sub under the bed.  Will take some pics and post.

Looks nice!

The small (22ga?24ga?)  black wires did go to a loop antenna on ours, like what Ron linked to.

The subwoofer under the bed is 'useless' for good sound IMO.  I have yet to get around to going in there and taking it out, it has remained in there due to being out of the way.  (exactly)  The small surround speakers are a close second in audio quality. Better than nothing, but not better than what came on the 32" TV I put in.  We just use the TV sound.

I bring any media we want to watch on a USB stick, and plug it into the TV. Fulll HD 1080 is not problem. I skipped Blu Ray disks, and bring the HD content this way.   The double layer Blu Ray holds 50GB of data, and is a delicate media. Scratch the label side of it too deep, and its trash. The optical side can be polished QUITE a bit to restore disc use.

I use a 256GB stick, it can hold 5X + the media of one disc, and can go through the wash without damage. I didnt WANT to prove that, but have by not checking pockets..... :-[  I see that the head unit you linked to also takes USB, might be something to explore.

(edit to correct spelling)

Thanks.  I wonder where the loop antenna is.  I see the wire but have not seen any antenna.   The unit I put in uses an auto type antenna.  I usually bluetooth my music from my android, which this unit works good.   I tried the usb but nothing  played.  Will have to investigate further.   BTW,  how do y'all transfer movies to a usb stick?

To get the movies off DVD/BluRay discs one 'rips' them.  Little out of the scope of this forum, it is easily googled.

NOT sure what the USB does on your head unit.  RTM.  (nod)

EDIT - "" USB Playback of MP3/WMA Files ""  -   You USB does music only, .mp3 or .wma format. No pics or movies. :(  https://pdf.crutchfieldonline.com/ImageBank/v20200211154200/Manuals/522/522JWM62A.PDF page 4.

On some (older) flatscreenTV's, the USB sometimes is for updates to the firmware only. Others a little newer it can only do music and pictures, but not movies. More recent TV's handle just about anything.  I use the MP4 format for my 2K HD.

Thanks.  I just read that.   The DVD player works good.   I will probably stream and use DVD only when no internet is available.

Ron, with a 26" TV, you may not notice the difference that much between the Bluray and DVD quality.

Little info here: https://electronics.howstuffworks.com/high-definition-tv-limit1.htm   Check the resolution on your TV, it might not be 1920x1080 to start with.

For camping use, if you have some movies on Bluray that you HAVE to have with you, rip them and burn them to DVD!  2o2 Leave them in the camper.  Its legal to do for your own personal use. DO NOT loan them out to other campers.  :cool

I use Pinnacle Studio video software*, and it takes the HD movies and burns them onto 480P DVD's just great! I even downloaded some 1080P movies from YouTube and it put them to 480P dvd without a fuss. I was using an old DVD projector at the last party on a 144" inflatable screen.  They looked GREAT!

*Yeah, its cheap and fills my needs. The best thing is that it does NOT need an internet connection to use, unlike many of the pro software packages do now. I like to keep my video editing computer offline, so updates dont change things for the worse.

Yes Volkemon, I agree with you.  I think with our 26" TV, I don't believe I will notice a sizeable improvement in video quality with a Blu-Ray player.  To be honest, my expectations are lower in our PC than at home on our 60" TV.  We are satisfied watching movies in our PC with "regular decent" quality.

I never tried to copy Blu-Ray movies to DVDs.  We have Pinnacle Studio.  If we "REALLY" want to take a particular Blu-Ray along, I will give that a try.  Thanks for that tip!  But it would be extremely convenient just to grab some movies of either format from our collection and not make a project of it.

A picture of the almost final install.   The lower door will be routed with the same profile as the door above.   I will be trashing the old executive system this Thursday.  The internals of the system still work including DVD.  There are 2 buttons the are attached to a removable panel that are jerry rigged, plus no remoted.   Anyway I know Ron is possibly the only one that still has the original system.  This would be a great parts piece.

I am curious what you want for the unit (and remote if you find it) and what shipping would be to my zipcode 60118.  USPS offers a flat rate game box DETAILS HERE that costs $21.90 to ship anywhere which works for me.

Who knows, one day I might keep my old Executive alive through spare parts.  It is my personality to get all I can from things......my 14 year old original tires being one example.

Ron,  I don't want anything for the unit.  I would rather it go somewhere that someone could use it.  I really don't like to throw away anything that I may use in the future.   That's why my garage and shed if full of stuff.  I never had a remote.  Let me see what the cost to ship is.   I did see the $22 for shipping.
