Trik-L-Start
« on: May 27, 2021, 01:45:43 pm »
My mechanic is going to install a Trik-L-Start on our 2019 along with some other work. We too have problems with the chassis battery draining in the winter even though we are connected to shore power. Although the factory told me we have one already..we do not. One of the few with newer units who seemed not to get one. The existing trickle/white button uses a 5 amp fuse. Any issues with putting a 10 Amp Trik-l on there? You can tell I am not an electrician. My mechanic probably knows.

Thanks,

Hank

Your unit already has a way to charge your engine battery. Read PC's new manual to learn how to use it.
Also the fuse is for the switch to operate a relay not to send power to your battery. There is always a possibility the relay is not working so you just need to follow directions and see if the engine battery voltage goes up when the relay is turned on. There is nothing wrong with leaving this relay on continuously when RV is in storage with your power plugged in.

No problem at all, I have one of the 10amp Trik-l-Start that I put in my PC.

PC puts them in the engine compartment under the radiator overflow tank.

KeelHauler - Thanks for reminding me about the existing trickle function. I have been having trouble with that even after I replaced the white rocker with an on/off switch and going through a few fuses. So I was looking for something more "foolproof" and robust to maintain the chassis battery since we live in a pretty cold winter area. The mech and I will troubleshoot the existing 5 Amp before installing the Trk-L-Start. We have full hookups for the PC including 30/50 amp.

DONC13 - Thanks for confirmation. Since you live in "cold" Colorado (?) has your experience with the Trik-L-Start been as good as hoped?

It's been fine.  However for storage I disconnect both the engine battery and the coach batteries.  I have a knife switch for the NEG. Post of the engine battery and remove the NEG cables from the coach battery.

Works great for me.

I am finally ordering a Trik-L-Start today. I notice they have discontinued the 5 Amp model and now offer a 10 Amp "Mega" model only. And the price of course went up. More power for larger batteries I guess.
