We are going to switch to a dually pickup with a slide in camper. That will give us the mobility we crave and a dry warm place to sleep. We were never inside unless it was raining hard or too cold so, for us, a motorhome is overkill.
Hi TallGuy Gary,
I am sorry to read of your failed experiment. If I hear anyone looking for a near-new PC-2552 or similar, I will keep you in-mind.
Be careful. The DRW truck with camper setup can be massive in every dimension. You might not be downsizing as much as you think. For example, a Ford DRW is available only in an F450 crew cab. Both wheel base choices are longer than a PC-2350, then consider the camper portion hanging off the back. In the end, it may compare to a PC-2350, maybe even longer. You'll be sleeping up top in a truck camper, an alternative inconvenience to 2350 double bed. If the tight quarters of the 2350 double bed works, it might be something to think about.
Of coarse a primary benefit is leaving the camper at the campsite and take the truck around. But that requires the dreaded setup process. And a huge empty DRW crew-cab long-bed truck won't be easy to get around with in the parks. Your Jeep Cherokee is a breeze for that. At home, unless you have regular need for such a truck, it will sit around just like a motor home. A fellow I worked with drove a DRW crew-cab long-bed pickup to work on occasion to keep it working well. That thing hung out so far into the isle, it was exceptionally ripe for accidents. It was NOT domestic-friendly at all.
I always thought model 2100 with a large cab-over bed would have been a real sweet PC offering. Not necessarily enticing for most older folk, but younger people would love it. It would be a Cadillac version of that discontinued SRW Cruise America 19A people on other forums always talk about. Model 2400 would also benefit from having one. It is such a pain to setup and tear down the bedding twice daily....speaking from experience with our old rig. We often just left the bed setup and lived that way....just horrible for us.
Just my thoughts.
