Time for a new 2350 mattress after 10 years. Any recommendations?
« on: September 28, 2017, 06:03:20 pm »
Hi everyone,

Our 2007 2350 cut-corner standard soft foam mattress is done.  It is high around the edges, compressed where we sleep.  We'd like something more firm and even a little thinner if possible for more room over the bed.  We are considering memory foam because works well in our dinette.

What is Phoenix installing these days?  What mattress material do you have and how do you like it?

I appreciate your input and experiences with your Phoenix mattress and other RV mattress suppliers.

We simply ordered a similar sized 10"thick memory foam plus 2 other foams, mattress from Walmart. Took it out of it's cover, then placed the original mattress on top. Mark size with black marker. Cut to size with large sharp knife. Replacement cover, and place in coach.

Of course Earl can tell you what they install. For depth remember too thin you may get an ache or two from feeling the base support board for the bed area. So  don't  cut yourself down and end up with an ache and pain. I started with them and the mattress we got told me right off... But it has gotten better  so I don't dread bedtime now. Sleep tight. P

IKEA memory foam mattress meet electric turkey carving knife. Done deal. Same thing on a couple of previous RVs with unusual shaped/sized beds. If that's not comfy enough, get a mattress topper at bed, bath, beyond and cut it down the same way, put it on top of the IKEA memory foam.

Sense we are going to be modifying our bed, we ordered our new 2350 without a mattress. I have sat on, but not slept on this system http://www.nickleatlantic.com/  Everyone I have talked to that own them love them. Thats the route we are going.

My wife is thinking we will try using some generic foam.  We have a two-piece raw foam we used as a mattress in our first rig.  The two pieces and it's size has me concerned, but surely worth giving a try.

Back when we bought our PC in 2007, a zippered mattress cover was an undocumented option, made of the same fabric used elsewhere in the PC.  We never bought that cover, now kicking myself that we didn't.  It would have been a great solution for using generic foam.

If you are near the Great Lakes maybe   find a   custom boat cushion shop to fabricate a zippered cover or complete mattress? The place that made mine does a lot of custom boat stuff too.  I dropped off the old mattress  to use as a pattern. The cost was around  $480.
3 lb memory foam is great, not too hard or too soft.

Winnebago (be nice) uses the Froli Sleep System on several of their smaller class C's like the View and Fuse. People seem to really like it.  Gives some support over the top of those sheets pf plywood.

I appreciate everyone's comments and input so much that I inquired from Phoenix concerning a past undocumented optional zippered upholstered mattress cover that matched the interior fabric.  It seems one would be ideal to stuff foam stock into to create a very nice finished mattress.

Sounds like a solution, Ron.

We replaced the mattress in our '08 2350 this year and it made a huge difference.  We special-ordered one from measurements from these guys: https://www.mattressinsider.com/custom-mattress.html.   8 inch "Luxury Coolmax" for $525.  I can't imagine going thinner.  We bottomed out on the old mattress, but this one is fine.
