Disappointed

Back for my first trip with our new 2552 BC. The first problem that we had was the diverter valve overfilling the freshwater tank. The second problem was we have a major water leak on the left side of the  coach water runs right off the bottom whenever the city water is hooked up and turned on. Wound up using the freshwater tank and the pump for the whole two weeks.  The next problem two  Cubbard door latches broke and had to use bungee cords to keep them closed when traveling .

Then the front AC was vibrating so bad we could not use it, thank goodness we had 50 a.m. and two ACs install. We were traveling along the golf and temperatures were near 100 and the whole time we were there.

Then we had some rain and we got rain coming in underneath the slide out, I had caulked the downspout before we left hoping that problem would not be there.

Then one night and when walking up to the camper after dark I noticed the light shining around the entrance door,  The right side of the door does not seal against the seal, the door sitscrooked in the framework the top  lean stored the front in the bottom lane store the back leaving a Y again on the hinge side of the door. Y

I was hoping for more quality work from PC at all that I had read on this site and others. I did own a 2013 2100 and had far fewer problems in this, I am  really disappointed in the quality of workmanship that went into this coach, I will now have to spend considerable time making these repairs.

I could possibly take it back to the factory however I live in South Florida and it's at 1400 mile drive to get there I think I will try and make these repairs myself.

Hi magnumiii,

I am sorry to hear of your troubles.  From what I have been reading on this forum, it seems 2017 is a year of mishaps of one kind or another.  I hope you are able to resolve everything.  If you get stumped on a resolution, I suggest you pick Kermit's brain.  He might be able to help via the phone or email.

I have a question for you.  What is model 2552 BC?  What does BC stand for?  Some of your typing has been a bit confusing for me and I wonder if that is all it is.

Yeah, it's becoming pretty evident that you may or may not get a quality coach from this company anymore...sorry about your problems and am also disappointed, as I was excited about getting a customized coach, but I think it's time to consider another brand.  At least then the cost difference may make up for any of their inadequacies.

I am not sure 2017 is the only year with mistakes.  When I purchased my 2015 2350, there were 15 items that either failed or were installed wrong.  While PC corrected all issues, a quality product does not offer a product wth this many mistakes.  I equate the RV industry to the auto industry in the late 1970's when quality was poor and it took the Japan quality auto industry to wake up the US market.

Would have to agree with that.  And it is certainly not just Phoenix, we went with them because they have one of the better reputations.  It appears to be standard procedure for units to go out with flaws and then have them corrected at the dealer or a repair shop.  Our rig had 16 issues, all fixed the next day at the factory and I cannot say enough about how the guys jumped in and bent over backwards to get us fixed and on the road.  But I do wonder if those issue should have been caught during QC not after delivery.

If you read any of the general RV forums the common consensus is that you should never buy a new unit because all new units leave the factory with issues that the first owner has to get corrected.  It is a sad statement on an entire industry that used rigs are considered to be better than buying new.

And getting repairs done is not all that easy if you have to go to a shop.  Our air-conditioner unit was DOA but we did not test it until we were 3,000 miles away from Elkhart.  That was March 7th.  It was 22 degrees when we picked the rig up and the only test we did was to check if the fan ran, which it did.  I have no doubt Phoenix would have swapped it out at the factory but we were too far away by then.  The earliest appointment we could get any local repair shop was at Camping World on May 18th.  They ran the diagnostics and sent the report to Dometic who agreed it was DOA and a warranty replacement.  Parts were ordered and finally arrived at Camping world on July 25th.  The earliest service appointment was then August 18th, so 5 months to get an air-conditioner replaced under warranty.

Why would you do the repairs yourself?  Call Kermit, he can and I am sure he will authorize a local repair shop fix your 2552.

You do NOT have to take it back to Elkhart to get it repaired.

If you pick up a new PC when it is cold or just cool outside, ask if you can take it inside to test the a/c. Test the heat outside. You can move your stuff while inside as well.

My heat pump has a heating coil that the air blows over. The compressor does nothing for heating.

The only QC I saw was when I looked into the bathroom mirror. Oh, it was me.  That was back in 2011, things might have changed since then.

 If you read  some of these forms you will find that more often than not it takes several months to get into a facility for repairs. A lot of dealerships will not work on the unit if it's not one that they have sold. Fortunately I found a repair shop near me thet will get me in within two weeks to fix the AC unit and take a look at the door to see if he can do something with it. I think I have tne water leak from the city side  already fixed. If  Phoenix cruiser  sends me the latches as he  said he would then that's no problem at all.  I thought that they would be here by now as I talk to him two weeks ago and he said he would send them.  I will not drive 1400 miles to get to the factory for repairs, I know I can get things taken care of here.

Issue with overfilling freshwater tank?  Should just pour out the vent at the alternate fill.  Is it leaking inside coach?  Maybe like mine, failed to seal the alternate fill hose to the tank.  Pull it off and use lots of silicone on tank and inside hose.

Renotse you are correct about a real heat pump, such as I have at home, but what was advertised as a heat pump on my PC has the coil. I was surprised when the tech show me the coil. He was checking the a/c when he showed me the coil. He said most RV a/c s are like that. I can't say myself but am just passing along what I saw.

Sounds like you have the selector set on the tank fill mark, rather than the city water mark.  On my 2015 model 2551, it's an Anderson 4 way valve.  Pointed UP is normal self contained tank/water pump mode.  Pointed Right is suction mode so you can suck RV Antifreeze into the system to winterize, pointed down is city water operation no need for water pump to get water flow...this position should NOT fill your water tank.  Pointed left will fill your water tank and (on my 2551) the overflow comes out the passenger side fill only.    When filling the tank, once water starts coming out the overflow...even shutting the water completely off,water will continue to come out the overflow for a minute or two.

When I turn my water valve, I turn it just past the click stop and then back.   

If your valve is mis-plumbed or defective, that is a fairly major job reworking the plumbing as it runs behind the shower/cabinet/toilet etc.

We had this problem we noticed when we were camping in Cedar Key.in spring.. and I let Kermit know and he indicated the 4 way valve seemed to be a problem so he sent one and Jim replaced it. Then the pump still ran and so Jim replaced the water pump too while he had the mattress out since that is a big job to move. Since then it seems to be working well. No more overflow . P    btw  our PC is 2910T with queen bed in slide and mattress overs location of valve and pump.

PS  in rethinking this I would say we had a water leak, probably the toilet we replaced last week. And that contributed to the failures all around.
But this is after the fact evaluation. And on the other side the water pump & valve failure may have contributed to the toilet blow out. I will try to get the name of the valve if it is marked  Kermit sent it and Jim installed. was May or June I think.

I did have the valve set on the city water position it was leaking passed the tank fill valve very slowly. Took about four hours to fill the tank before and started running over. Definitely had  The valve in the correct position.  The tank valve position did not completely shut off to stop the water from running  in.

I always use a pressure regulater and a water filter. I think the problem is the valve assembly as other companies have had similar problems.
