New Slide, leak or no leak
« on: August 08, 2017, 07:53:57 pm »
Picked up the new 2552X on August 2nd. Spent the night at KOA checking things out. About the same as out 2016 2351. Then down to southern Ill. Beautiful weather and no chance to check for leaks. Early Sunday morning we headed back to PA in a light rain. Rained across southern Indiana and Ohio. Spent the night in S. Ohio in the rain. No water; no leaks. Cool (cheer) In walking around unit at home, something is missing. No skid rollers. Called Earl. Oops. They are coming via UPS. All is well.

Congrats on your new baby!  Glad you had a leak free drive home and hope all trips are leak free.

Congrats on the new wheels!

Your previous posts mentions extension. What is the length and WB?

Also, if not too intrusive, where are you located in PA?

The 2552 extended (I call it the 2552X) is 28'4". Everything is the same as the "normal" 2552 except the center. The beds are 6 inches longer and overhead cabinets also longer. We are located in the northeast corner of PA in New Milford. We are in the Endless Mountains (really just hills) and have a maple syrup business.

We were hoping you were located in the southwest PA and would be kind enough to let us take a peek at your RV. Oh Well.

The PC leak issue is a little unsettling to a prospective buyer.

Thanks,
SandK

The PC leak issue is a little unsettling to a prospective buyer.

I was very concerned about the leaking slide issue, as well as the mechanical failure rate on the Lippert-Schwintek side drive system. So much so that I ordered my new 2552 without the slide.

In my case my previous motorhome did not have a slide so I won’t miss it on this one.  Many people today feel that they would not be without a slide, but some very well respected RV vendors still do not offer slideouts and they sell more RVs than they can deliver. Examples, LazyDaze Class C and Airstream trailers.

It seems that is because LazyDaze and Airstream want their products to outlast their multiple owners.....and their products do.....and I want our PC to last that long for us...like 35 years, hence no slide out.

Airstreams are to rounded to put a slide into if they wanted to. They even need a special awning arm that is bent to fit the sides.  :beg

LazyDaze are know for being stuck in the 1950's. Try getting them to customize their motorhome, not going to happen.  >(

Some folks resist change now matter what, while others embrace changes and improvements. ;)

To SandK. Too bad we didn't know you were looking as we came home across western Maryland on I-68 and Rt 220 in south PA. We will be headed to the rally in Sisters, OR towards the end of next week and are always looking for a route around and far away from Chicago.

I am thankful that Phoenix offers their slide outs as "options" as their floor plans allow.  This way each PC-ordered owner gets what he wants, and does not get what he doesn't want.  Unfortunately for the rare few, second thoughts creep in after they have owned their PC a while.  I could say that concerning a few other choices we made 10 years ago with our PC.  Fortunately I was able to correct and/or update them myself along the way.  A few remain for good like the crank-up Winegard antenna and one too many roof vents.  For us with our needs and desires, we would be better in the long run without those two roof-intrusive features.

I agree whole heartedly with this statement. Especially since new prospective buyers read this forum in preparation to make their purchase choices.  It is very important that all configuration perspectives are discussed, without harassment, no matter how much in the minority they may be.

Amen!

Amen!

Here is the very rare 2018, Twin Heat Pump,  No-Slide,  2552 on the line 8/16/2017

Thank you Phoenix Cruiser

Maybe someone special-ordered it.

If sales slip due to the economy or whatever, and Phoenix wants to boost sales, they should show both floor plans with and without slide outs and pictures of both on their website for that might boost their sales a bit.  Right now they have more than they can handle.

Nice looking it was in the works when we were there. Would love to see the layout. We have  twin heat pumps too and we are 50 amp which works well.  So with Dog on sofa and us in back the temp can be set to heat both area's ... No Jammie's for Miss Elle so she likes a little heat too.

Sure looks nice... Good luck .. P
Patricia
A new day has dawned now only traveling with Miss Elle . Jim will be watching over us.

By the way Lazy Daze RV's are constructed of 2X3's and plywood.  Some of their 58-60 models are still on the market for sale.

For those that do no not think they make changes, heres a list from 1968-2013 of changes.  In the last four years they have made another 35 changes to improve.   http://www.andybaird.com/travels/LD-guide-web/changes.htm

As for standard and option items for 2017, they are impressive.  You can feel the 59 years of experience just looking at their spec sheets.

http://www.lazydaze.com/FEATURES.PDF       Look at the detailed of weights and measures.  These folks know their stuff.

PC, I am sure took a hard look at their model.  Many similarities on how they do business

Hi Ron-n-Toni,

We are located North of Pittsburgh near the intersection of Interstates 76 and 79. If you travel close to us and would be kind enough to show us your RV, we would be grateful and treat you to lunch/dinner. If it is the weekend, we may be able to travel a little (Erie?).

We are considering a 2351 or 2552, and you now have experience with both models.

Thanks
SandK
