I wonder if PC is considering the new Ford Transit chassis?  GVWR might be a little on the light side.

We were at the factory in October of last year and noticed a Transit chassis inside the shop.  I don't know anymore than that.

There is one on the factory floor but it appears to have been there for some time.  GVWR is light and no other advantage at this time.  If the E-450 / 350 goes away then things might be different.  Maybe just testing just in case.  At one point Ford stated the E-series was going away but they later backed off from that, at least for now.

We saw that transit at the factory two years ago. Kermit was staining an inside door.

Your probably right.  Although the Transit has become the number 1 rated diesel van.  People speak of the
quirks of the MB Sprinter that Ford has seem to overcome.  I am a member of the Winnebago Fuse owners Forum.
Most buyers are first time, late Boomers and Gen Xer's (no clue about RV's :) )  You know the "tiny house" people.  The rest seem to be Travato/Paseo owners doing an upgrade.  Winnebago has made about 400 Fuses in the last 18 months.  Lots of first model year clitches.   LTV has produced the Wonder on a Transit chassis.  Ive heard there is a years wait on them?

"quirks of the MB Sprinter" I am wondering what quirks you have heard about. The MB Sprinter is used by Phoenix as well as many other companies. If Ford drops the E350/E450, I may have to go to the MB Sprinter in the future as the Dodge and the Transit don't seem to be a  good fit for a motorhome to me.

Right.  I think the current GVWR of the Transit is a real limitation.  Current makers are talking about an OCC of anywhere from 900-1200 pounds...and that may be a stretch.  We love the Sprinters to drive.  Its the only RV that my wife feels comfortable in driving.  We did test drive a Fuse Transit last April and it handled very well. Noted differences were the cab is much lower to the road, car like, and very little wind effect.  Also it had a little bit more get up and go then the Sprinters.

I think the "quirks" are not related to breakdowns.  I assume that the early years issues with the Sprinter relating to "limp home mode" and DEF issues have long been solved.  The $10K price difference, lack of MB dealers, and cost of maintenance, seems to be sticking points with some folks.  A delivery fleet owner stated that the long term maintenance costs for the Sprinter was .10 a mile and .02 a mile for the Transit??   Will be interesting to see what Ford does in the future,\.

My brother just got a new little Winnebago
(24-25ft.)
with the little Chrysler engine.
Lots of cool features.  I love my PC, but
would have liked some of its interior
features.  😀

Your brother needs to watch his load very closely if his Winnebago is built on the Dodge Ram Promaster chassis with front wheel drive and single rear wheels.  I hear people exceed the load limit extremely quickly.  Don't plan on carrying much.  A 3rd person or a tank of fresh water puts you over GVWR limit.

JA---If there's one company that I would trust to build on a Ford Transit it would be PC.  I am thinking that having a
Transit sitting around for a number of years is an indication of interest.

When we were at the PC plant last month there was a Transit cab chassis sitting covered with plastic and dust. 

I note the current Coachmen "Orion" advertisement based on the Transit.  Interestingly they offer one model with a bed slide out.  Size wise the Transit provides specs that are slightly smaller than the original 5-cylinder Winnebago "View" (which was known for its limited carrying capacity). 

Due to two rounds of EPA emission restrictions the current, larger Sprinter became six-cylinder to compensate the MPG and 60 hp lost as well as the added weight of the exhaust reactors and DEF tank(s). Therefore, the Transit fills a size, cost, performance, service niche between the the Sprinter class B and class C designs.

Viewed with the PC model mix, this niche may be too small to justify adding a model to bottom of the Phoenix line.
