Parts list?
« on: February 02, 2017, 12:05:14 am »
So for those of you who have been driving your PC long enough to need parts, what parts do you normally carry?  Looking to fill out my tool kit and parts box.  Any suggestions welcome, both for the truck and for the coach.

Since we have only had our PC for about 8 months I am still learning as well and would certainly be interested in other owners experience.  Below are some of the things we carry.

Portable air compressor for PC and bike tires
Jack and lug wrench
Rubber hammer to reinstall wheel covers
Assortment of screw drivers including #2 Robertson, flat, Phillips, etc.
Adjustable wrenches, pliers, etc.
Small set of socket wrenches
Wire cutters/strippers, electrical tape, assorted connectors
Wire ties
Volt/Ohm meter
Spare fuses
Replacement latches for cabinets and screen door
Air blowout fitting to blowout out water lines
RV antifreeze
WD 40, small can machine oil
Paraffin to lube latches etc.
Tube of graphite powder for locks
Ford engine oil and Onan engine oil
Eternabond tape and Butyl tape
Duck tape
Spare batteries to fit flashlights and remote temp sensors (outside and refrigerator)

I expect I have left off a few items but these are the main items in my "stash".

Great question.  Obviously, I think part of the answer depends on how one will use their RV.  We would carry more spare parts if we did more boondocking or remote camping, for instance.  While we haven't been doing this very long, relatively speaking, we haven't found the need for very many spare parts since 1) it's impossible to predict all possible issues we might might encounter and 2) there is usually a resource nearby (either parts or service) that can provide the solution.

That being said, as far as parts (non-tools or supplies) we do carry:
- spare fuses
- a small nut/bolt/screw assortment
- a small electrical connector assortment
- batteries
- assorted wire ties
- super glue and liquid tape
- Eternabond tape and heavy duty duct tape
- spare fresh water hose (flat, roll up type)
- spare water pressure regulator (some campgrounds have extreme pressures)

We have used each of the above at one time or other and they take up little room to store.  Even though the macerator discharge nozzle fits, I think 4, dump station inlet sizes including a garden hose extension, we have found that ours does not fit those available at a number of campgrounds.  In these cases we've used a large rock, or more often we use the heavy duty duct tape, which works well.  Apparently, the newer Sanicon Turbo nozzle fits 6 different sizes rather than 4, so this may no longer be an issue.

Lastly, we do carry a length of 3" sewer hose (with connector) as well as a spare Sanicon hose.  We had pinholes appear in our Sanicon hose, made emergency repairs with liquid tape and duct tape (which barely lasted until we received a new hose) and decided there isn't a downside to always having a spare hose.

Other than the obvious small tools and an assortment of screws and small bolts I carry an assortment of tape, including Gorilla Tape.  I also carry a windshield crack kit like this:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Rain-X-Windshield-Repair-Kit/34163599

We seem to get a ding on our windshield more often than I want to think about because of some of the places we travel.  Follow the instructions precisely and you may be amazed at the results.

Also, Gorilla Glue.  Don't leave home without it!   For years, I must admit, I have carried a lot of emergency stuff that I have never used and it takes up lots of space.  I should have typed for decades, not years :beg

Thanks for the replies.  Quite a few things I had not thought of, and some I had.  Weight is always a consideration as well as just space but I want to make sure I have the odds and ends I need.  Tools I think I have a handle on.  Spare parts for the truck and coach are a little harder to figure.

Also, do you carry a shovel? Axe? Step ladder?

Single bit small axe in case i find wood to split for a  fire. No shovel. Definitely  6 ft ladder for awning and slideout awning especially  during  autumn. 3.5×3.5×72or73 inches tall.

We carry both a small shovel and axe (both army surplus) and have never used them.  Don't carry a step ladder, never needed one.

Instead of ax an or saw, we use Black and Decker battery operated chain saw for fire wood.  Google it!. Works.

Cabinet door latches.   Phoenix will give you spares.

Phillips head screwdriver.

And of course, the ever present duct tape.

I carry a small toolkit with a set of 3/8 sockets, pliers and multi bit screwdriver plus a few sized hose clamps.   It came fron Sears, about the size of a book and it zippers closed.   I bought it years and years ago so don't know if it's still available.

I also carry a 12v air compressor rsted for truck tires and an sutomotive 12v battery charger.

As I recall, the only PC-specific parts I make sure we carry are both pieces of door latches.

My tool box is full of generic stuff......and tools too.
