PC 2350 Questions
« on: July 15, 2016, 11:43:27 am »
Looking at a 2016 2350 and had a few questions.

Coach does not have HDH jacks. Anyone have one w/o jacks? Do you think they are necessary? We camp at times on some uneven surfaces. They could be added but expensive, new price if ordered is $4335. Also the coach has a 350 chasis so I am concerned the extra weight may take up valuable CCC.

Coach only has 4 seat belts, two cab and two sofa. Can the euro chair have seat belts installed? If the euro is replaced with a seat like the passenger seat, does it come with set belt? Any other way to get more capacity for adult seat belts? Other PC models are not good options as My wife and I want a queen/full bed. The 2910 models also lack the CCC we want.

Thanks

Ron

Frequent comment is 2350, 51, and 2400 on E350 sag at rear.  Mine does, so try to park down hill making coach level without deploying jacks.  Suspect it's more due to weight distribution than total but never weighed it.  Sounds like you should consider having it built on E450 and with jacks, can be very convenient at times.
Yes a third captain's chair comes with a lap belt.

I have a 2015 PC 2350 on a E350 chassis without jacks.  Never had a problem.  I only stay at Federal or State parks and have found them to be reasonably level.  In the 18 months and 20,000 miles traveled I have visited well over 50 parks.

Sarz....Going to be differing opinions on the jack question I am sure....Having had two PC's I would not be without them but if the dollars are a concern I can see why you might skip the jacks.  Will leave the E-350 question to others, my preference would be to upgrade to the E-450 but if the price is right on the coach you are looking at on the E-350 I would not worry to much about the CCC.  You will get a much rougher ride in the smaller coaches (2400,2350) based on the E-450 so everything is a trade off I would say.  best of luck. Thanks for your reply.  Do you have any issues with the stock suspension? Did you perform any upgrades to coach or suspension? How do you deal with the smaller bed?

Hi Sarz272000 Ron,

Our PC is a 2007 2350.  We have owned it for 9 years now.  We special ordered ours and did consider getting the HDH type of leveling jacks.  Given they are added after the rig is complete, I figured....."Why not do without them, save the money and the weight, and see how it goes?  If we later determined that we want them, we'll get them installed."  Nine years later and we still don't have them.  If someone waved a magic wand and they suddenly appeared on our PC, I would welcome them.  But we have been doing fine with the Lynx leveling blocks, chocks, and top caps.  They are very light weight and store nicely in our 2350 outdoor storage compartment.  We travel exclusively in national parks and other federal lands where the parking pad is rarely level and often uneven.  Even so, more often than not, I am able to get the rig "level enough" by looking at the bubble levels I stuck on the dash and door by the driver, and work with the uneven parking pad.  As mentioned by randallandchris, we try to park with a slight downward slope towards the front to keep our heads higher.

About the 2350 rear corner double bed.  It's smaller than a double bed at home and is not for everyone.  My wife and I are now in our late 50's and it is working okay for us.  My wife is 5'-1" & 120 pounds, me at 5'-11" & 180 pounds.  My point here is that we are not big people.  If either of us gained 40 pounds, we might have a problem.  I do wonder at times if it would have been better to have the shirt closet over the bed to be made more shallow to match the depth of the rest of the cabinets over the bed.  Having it so would make it easier for the person by the window to get in and out from the bed.  I did mount a television on that shirt closet which makes matters worse yet, but we like having a TV in the bedroom.  I figure if in our later years we are having a lot of trouble crawling in and out from the corner bed, we'll get rid of the TV and make the shirt closet more shallow.

You can request a 3rd matching pedestal-mount captain seat with seat belt today in place of the Euro chair and it might not cost extra.  You CANNOT have a seat belt for the Euro chair because of the way the chair is temporarily mounted via a clamp to hold it in place while in transit.  Back in 2007, a pedestal-mount low back barrel chair with a seat belt came standard.  Some years later, I bought a 3rd matching captain seat to replace it for comfort and safety.  The seat belt is mounted to the pedestal, not the seat, making it very simple to change seats.

The NO-slide dinette 2350 comes with 4 seat belts, 2 per bench.  So our 2350 HERE has 7 seat belts.  A slide out with the couch and 3rd captain seat, you get 5 seat belts.

Regarding upgrading the suspension, you can't go overboard with improvements like heavy duty stabilizer bars, rear trac bar, better shocks and steering stabilizer.  The E350 chassis 2007 and older were real bad because they came without a rear stabilizer bar.  The 2008-2016 are better but it is a matter of personal preference as to whether it's good enough.  Each owner has their own thoughts about that.

As far as the rear end sag is concerned, the 2350 is typically built on an E350 chassis which does sag a little when carrying a full tank of fresh water and empty waste tanks as shown in this picture of our rig on a trip.  Keep in-mind our E350 is a 2007 model year.  A 2008 to current day E350 sags less for the chassis CCC was increased in the rear axle by 700 pounds.  Helping further, the fresh water tank was relocated more forward and more toward the center side-to-side.  I assume the rear end sag goes away with an E450 but then you deal with an extremely rough ride.  I personally feel there is no issue with the E350 sag for it is not much.  Shown here is our 2007 E350 chassis with a 2350 NO-slide on it's back.  Our 2007 chassis would sag more with a current-day 500-600 pound slide out.....and more yet with HDH levelers.  If contemplating a 2351, I would consider an E450 chassis.

We took deliver of a 2016 2351 in December. We had the unit built on the E-450 chassis. It handles very well and we have more CCC than we will ever use. The only thing I have done is install Koni FSD shocks. I am 6'3" and 210 so had the corner bed made longer by eliminating the passenger pantry and extending the bed 6 inches and the counter 6 inches. The DW sleeps on the recliner (no dinette) all does very well. I also had a higher dome installed in the shower. About jacks!! We elected to have them installed and are glad we did. We just got back from Nova Scotia and stayed in some level challenged campgrounds where the jacks were very helpful. You could of course carry blocks etc but the 2350-1 doesn't have a great deal of storage. We are in PA and unit is in our barn available to look at.

Interesting.

I am surprised to read there is not significant outdoor storage under the rear corner bed of a 2351 with an extended rear corner bed.  I know since our rig was made, the factory relocated the water tank under the bed to improve weight distribution & driving/handling, and also placed the furnace under the bed when getting a slide out, but I would have thought there is still significant outdoor storage for leveling blocks and much more.  I would love to get a good look at a 2351 some day.

We have the standard suspension for the E350.  As for the bed, I am 6 feet tall and it can hold two adults and one dog.  Although at times the dog is kicked out for more room.

We bought our rig a year old so we didn't have the option to choose options.  I would not, however, pay for the price of jacks.  We spend most of our time in the National Forest campgrounds and they can be very uneven sites.  I use block levelers like here:  http://www.walmart.com/ip/Lynxlevelers-RV-Leveling-Kit/16778427

I have used these things for years and discovered them in our Class B days back thirty years ago.  I always carry two sets in the PC and four more sets in the towed Jeep.  I have never used all of them, but I have them if I need them.  Leveling four or five inches on the front or back or side to side is not problem with these.  That is less than $200 bucks.  After a while, got so adept at using them that I read the side and rear levels I stick on every RV we own and I can tell darn close how many and under which wheel.  Now, this is easier on most Class Bs since you only have two rear wheels, not four.  This won't work for everyone and I think it would be really neat to have those nice power levelers, but I would not order them personally if I was ordering a new rig because they are so expensive, another maintenance item and add more weight.   i would rather spend that dough on stuff we see like wooden floors, upholstery,

By the way, no question in my mind:  if we ordered a new PC2350 it would be on a 450 chassis.  I have had both and prefer the 450 not only for CCC but also for gearing.

Everyone has their own thoughts and opinions on what is important to their particular style of travel and camping.   We tend to think of each trip as an adventure and just don't mind roughing it a bit.  Like leveling.

Ron, on the 2351's the only outside storage is the double bin in the back passenger side, other than the rear storage.  The pull out bin and door above it will hold a fair amount, but there's nothing else.  It's not much outside storage.

We may give you a hollar sometime on our way to Minnesota from Michigan to see our kids and let you take a look at the 2351.

The 2351 with an extended bed may gain the extension for storage under the bed, we will see.  Ron, I believe you moved your speaker from under the bed.

Ah yes, I did have the factory mount the subwoofer in the front dinette bench.  I forgot about that.

Is the factory still installing a subwoofer under the 2350 rear corner bed, inside the main outdoor storage compartment?

We bought our 2552 used without jacks, camped for a year with ramps and pads then had jacks installed. We love them but they can not compensate for a REALLY off level campsite (they pull the wheels off the ground). Still, we would do it again.

Thank you for all your comments they are very helpful. The variety of opinions and experiences gives us much to think about.

Has anyone determined actual CCC for a 2350/1? Not just the sticker CCC.

Have a Great Day!
