E-350 windshield replacement

E-350 windshield replacement

Only a reference by Sparky a year ago about replacing a windshield so would welcome any/all input.

Is it the original Ford E-350 windshield or was it modified?
Was there additional cost because the vehicle is now a motorhome?
If you have had it replace, any problems with leakage after?

We have replaced our E350 windshield twice since we  bought our 2012 PC. One place referred to it as an  Econoline windshield, the other as an E450 DRW cutaway chassis. In both instances the new windshield fit perfectly and there was no leakage issues. In both cases the replacement windshield was available from stock and installed without modification.  Econoline was the old name for the full size Ford van and came in both E350 and E450 chassis. Long story short it should not be difficult o find a replacement. Stay away from the  Alaska Highway if you want it to last more than a year or two!

I have had a windshield replaced on both E350 and E450.  No problem with either.  Be sure to get the glare shield at the top edge, after market wind shield is better than the original.

Elite (now Safelight) does RV windshields.   Yes the windshield is the standard Ford windshield.   No extra charge for an RV.

Elite us all over the front range and will come to where your RV is to do the work.

No.. I don't work for Elite... But have used them for 30 years or so.... Never had an issue with them.

Thanks for the input. Very helpful. No Safelite here. I live in a small town 3 hours from Denver so have to deal with what is available. They stock nothing and order on an as needed basis. Glad the glare shield was mention or one without would have been ordered.  What I did learn is that the E-350 chassis has different vehicles built on it and thus, different windshields. The minute we drove up, he said, "Oh, you have the Blah Blah model." You can tell I didn't even pay attention to the model. Also, this company only does inside their shop so PC had to fit. So glad it is short compared to other motorhomes.

Will let you know if I think the replacement is as good as or better than replacement.

My next problem...
We have the magic screens so I need to get the magnets off the old windshield and figure out how to put them on the new one. Super glue maybe?

Do you mean the Magna Shade magnets? 
When we needed to remove them from our previous rig we called the people at http://www.magneshade.com (336-753-0905) and they explained how to remove the magnets and sent us new stickers to put them on the new windshield.
The removal procedure was fairly easy by slipping a thin bladed putty knife between the magnets and the windshield.

Yes, Bruce, the Magne Shades. Thanks so much. I will scrape them off before the windshield is replaced and order the new adhesive pads.
We love those screens.

     We had the windshield replace by our little local business. The PC has been on two trips, one with serious rain, and all is well. No leaks and no sign it has been replaced. Our one mishap is that when I was removing the magnets for our Magne Shade sunscreens, one dropped in the crack, attached to the frame and will never be retrieved. Magne Shade shipped me another ($15 includes shipping) and sticky pads to attach them.

I have been told that because the windshield is now such a very integral part of the total structure of the vehicle  one should do everything possible to get OEM glass at all cost.  There is a very big difference in glass quality and the integrity has to be maintained for air bags, etc to work as effectively as possible.  I honestly do not think that this is smoke and mirrors promoted by the manufacturers but it really makes sense.  IMO.  Ron G.

Good to know. There are times that "generic" does not cut it.
I checked my paperwork and called the shop. They assured me it was OEM and that is why it took a week to get it in.

Delayed response to bobander
The replacement had more sun screening at top than the original, therefore less sun glare.
