Question (or two) about the 2910T
« on: April 05, 2015, 11:43:50 pm »
My wife and I have a 3100 that we have enjoyed very much, but for a variety of reasons we are drawn to the 2910T.  In some ways this will be another "downsizing" for us.  The rig before the PC was a 39 foot diesel pusher.  (Is that how you spell die...dei..oh well)  My concern relates to the inside storage differences in the two coaches.  The front of the 3100 appears to have more cabinet space, and we have a bit more storage in the bedroom.  Can you give me some "'assurances" that if we made it from a 39 foot Newmar A to a PC3100 we can surely make it to a 2910T.  Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Richard and BJ

Richard,
When we decided to go larger in 2012-we had a 2551-we were comparing the 3100 and 2910. We wanted twin beds, the bath area layout of the 3100 and the galley/living area of the 2910. So we ordered custom: rear of 3100 and front living area of 2910. Got a call from Kermit that the coach could not be built the way we wanted so we settled on the 2910 with the twin beds in the rear of the coach and the split bath. We only have the slide in the living area.

Our goal was an expanded living area with large windows on each side of the living area to maximize the views. We travel about 3-4 months in the summer and usually head to Maine. I like that the microwave is at eye height for me. We do not find that we have a problem with storage. We also had a cabinet made  for behind the driver's seat for additional storage ( moved the guages forward a little). That holds the camera, binoculars etc.

We do not have the hanging locker that is in the 2551/3100 in the bath. I REALLY miss that but I believe that in the 2910D there is one.

We almost bought a demo 2910D that Phoenix had at the Hershey RV show. I wanted a dinette and the extra front slide so we decided to order a 2910T without actually seeing one (a bad move on our part). We picked up our new PC in late November and traveled back from Elkhart to New Hampshire. After spending four nights with the queen bed setup we decided that this was too "tight and restrictive" because the bed was not really a walk around and getting to the overhead storage was difficult, especially with the slide in. Another issue I had with the 2910T was the two slides on the road side made it more difficult to level. It seemed to always lean to the left - don't know if Phoenix compensates for the extra weight on that side, but I would ask if ordering a 2910T.

As a result of the experience on our first trip I contacted Phoenix to inquire about options to deal with the queen slide issue. Because of the excellent customer service form Phoenix and their willingness to please I was able to work out a deal to swap out this "new" unit for a custom 2910. We now have a 2910 similar to George and Judi's, however we have two slides up front with the dinette on one side and sofa on the opposite side and the twin beds in the rear. This puts the dinette on the curb side where it should be (never liked it on the road side in our Class A). The opposing slides balance out the weight and make leveling much easier. An added benefit to this design is the extra overhead storage in the back which is easily accessible at all times.

This design has worked very well for us.

Thanks to both of you for the observations.  I keep thinking that we should just take the time to go to the factory and see what we find.  We did buy our 3100 at a Good Sam rally, and I went up there thinking that was what I wanted anyway.  Years ago we had a C with opposing slides up front, and we liked that a lot.  Our bed was also tight in that one.  We really liked the floorplan, but the "big" manufacturer had lousy service and totally turned us off to what could have been a good coach for us.  We prefer one bed rather than the twins in the 3100.  That is a part of what has drawn us to the 2910.  I wish there was a "show" coming up not too far from us soon, but who knows.  I have not tried the bed in a 2910, so that will have to be a place to start.

Thanks again.
