New Drawers and a Door too
« on: November 12, 2016, 10:10:01 am »
As many of you do we made some modification to our PC that enhances the usability and satisfaction based on our own unique requirements.  After staying in our 2552 for about 3 months we found items stored under the driver side bed somewhat difficult to access.  We carry several pieces of cookware and needed a sturdy place to store them that was readily accessible.  To address this I installed two drawers under the bed to store our most used cookware.  I also installed a door for access to the remaining part of the underbed storage for items like drinking water, small electric heater, etc. I did add a shelf above each drawer as a bonus area for storing thinner items that are less frequently used.

While the installation of the drawers actually reduced the available storage volume the improved accessibility more than made up for the loss in the way it meets the way we use our PC.

Is this the pass.  Side or driver side?

Jjohnson, thanks for flagging the difference in my write up and the photos.  The mod was done on the driver side bed.  I guess I can chalk it up to another all too frequent "senior moment" .

I edited my original post.  Thanks

Fred

I  have a lot of  senior moments myself .  I really like all your mods you have done. The 2552 is a fine floorplan that i wish we could get ourselves. Maybe  someday.

Fandj,
Very nice work, also noticed that you did a significant upgrade in the draw locks you used.
We spend 4 plus months living in ours so am also always in search for improved storage.
I discovered recently that there is a "significant" amount of unused space between the outside wall and the outboard partition of the bed on the drivers side, where you made your changes. However in the area is the gasoline fill inlet, shore power and lots of wiring.  I made protective partitions so as not to jeopardize or damage anything already there,  basically small boxes, then cut an access hole in the top of the fixed outboard bed board, like the one on top of the passenger bed.  It's not a lot of extra space but it will be useful for infrequently used items.
Your earlier posting about the shelves in the bedroom, we've debated doing that, but elected to make cloth pouches, my wife did, they are just big enough to hold our IPads, phone etc.  The back of the pouches is long enough to go under the mattress where it is velcroed down.  On our trips this summer they worked in keeping things off the floor at night.
I noticed someone recently posted that they ordered their new PC with the old style couch with the two draws underneath.  We really miss those drawers that we had in our 2350 and if to do it over again would ask for that change, personally I think the couch was more comfortable also.
Again lovely work
Bob

fandj,

Nice work you did there!

Everyone with the typical galley base cabinet feels a lack of storage for cookware and such, and we with our 2350 were no different.  I had a "That's Enough" moment about 4 years ago and came up with THIS cabinet modification.  Hey, even my wife loves it which speaks volumes.
