The awning shown in the link appears to be "old style".  On my 2008 2551 (manual 14' awning) the awning has a "housing" that it recedes into & provides a visual locking indication.  I would imagine the new electronic ones are much the same.  If, as the advertising says, I experience a microburst strong enough to take out the awning - I'm sure I'll have lots of other challenges as well!  BTW-unlike the notation in the advertisement, I'm not one who has ever seen an unfurled awning on the side of the road.

My 2006 2551 has probably the same awning made by Fiamma.  As you say, when you retract it it snaps into the  locked position in which the awning is completely boxed so the "microburst" can't reach the fabric.  That being said, I suspect this is one on the thousands of products that fulfull a need that doesn't really exist, but is sold on the basis of fear of a catastrophe.  I, too, have never seen an unfurled awning except a stationary one in a campground when the owner didn 't store it even though storm warnings were being given on TV.  Maybe I'll eat my words wrapped in my awning some day, but I don't feel a need for this gadget.

That device would not apply to the earlier box awning as I have on my 2007.  But maybe it would be useful to work with the newer electric awning because the entire awning roll is open to the elements when rolled up, right?.  I understand Billy's question, wondering if it would be useful.  Sometimes such things prevent one potential problem, but create another, "abrasion while in transit" as one possibility.

The winds of Western Kansas unfurled one of the slide awnings on a Monaco that was following me one time. We stopped on an exit ramp ran out the slide and back in and no more problem to Estes and back to Tulsa.  It happens, but I agree it fixes an often phantom problem.  Had we driven another 50 miles or so it would have probably torn something up but my buddy said you could hear the noise and I told him I saw it unfurl on the cell.
