PSA on a near miss

On our recent labor day camping excursion the wife packed the closet full of clothes and forgot to turn off the closet light. With clothes packed tight against it it got so hot that it melted thru the lens cover and melted a pair of nylon swim trunks. Could have been much worse than it was but still major concern. Ordered some LED motion lights to replace and they work great. Also replaced the one in the outside storage bay since it was the same style.

WOW! A good catch; a pair of swim shorts is a cheap price to pay, considering the altenative. I changed out all of my interior DC lights with LEDs right after we bought the PC. I removed the lights, replaced the (ugly) flourescent tubes with strips of 3528 LED strips. I just bought a 10' roll and used the adhesive strip to attach them. A mistake; the adhesive strip doesn't last long, so I eventually needed to apply glue to restick the strips to the roof side of the light. By doing so, I could control the brightness of each light fixture, by the length of strip that I attached. In my 2011, the lights had a three way switch, low, high & off. I cut long strips for a "Coach Cleaning Mode" - SUPER bright and a shorter length for low lumen use. Except for the adhesive facet, I have been very happy with my conversion. About an hour per unit time for the change out, including the removal, disassembly, reassembly, glue dry and reinstall.
Incandescant bulbs dissipate somewhere around 80% of their energy in heat. Good for you for catching this, before it turned tragic.

I agree. Ive already replaced the bulbs in all the overhead fixtured with LED and they have been great so far. Just hadnt gotten around to the closet ones yet. My shower has the same fixture but due to its location there should never be anything touching it so i just replaced the bulb in it with a LED version. I do still need to repair the light fixture right above the bed at the back window. The main bulbs wont turn on even after replacing the bulbs, only the small night light one works. I suspect its the driver board or an internal connection but i havent taken it apart yet.

1156-BA15S  LED tail light bulbs are direct replacements for the 5 watt incandescent bulbs in the closet, shower, outside storage, and porch light fixtures. Mine are 36 LED, 450 Lumens 3 watts. They run cool and the bright porch light is great for camping, although I would not recommend anything brighter out of respect for others.

There  are many different kinds.
For example ,  these are 21 LED, 270 lumens 2.5 watts. More LEDs = more Lumens and more watts.

Many years ago I replaced every interior and exterior house-related incandescent bulb including the porch light, exterior storage light, and Sanicon compartment light, with these direct replacement LEDs.  Naturally they run cool and are very easy on the house batteries.

I installed a polished aluminum plate behind the porch light bulb to get more light from it.



Does anyone here still have the old fluorescent light fixtures?
