Problem with battery disconnect(s) - no power
« on: September 15, 2023, 09:50:27 pm »
I am a new Phoenix Cruiser owner (2008 2551, no slides).  I had a trickle charge cable connected to my house batteries and when I plugged it in, I lost all power in the coach and chassis.  Nothing when I turn the key.  The inverter flashes yellow (rapidly) and there is no change when I reset the charger button under the fridge, nothing when I reset the breaker in the generator, nothing when I reset the fuse behind the batteries.  I suspect a fuse - a master fuse, but I am new to this RV and new to RV's in general - any ideas?  I have read through many old posts and tried everything I could find, but no change.  I spoke with the RV repair guy that installed the trickle charge and he is convinced it is probably a battery disconnect or fuse issue.....any ideas on where to look?

Thanks,

Barb

Check the circuit breakers.  Also check the engine battery.

Maybe you should check the trickle charger you're using.   Is it functioning properly ?    I had a bad one a couple years ago,  brand new even.  Drove me crazy til I figured it out.   Could be shorting out your system.

So far all my battery issues have been related to ground wires not getting good or consistent connection on the chassis.  I even had the primary ground bolt break off underneath where the house batteries are.  I would suggest confirming all those are clean and getting connection.  Hope this helps someone. :-)

Download this  schematic and send it to whoever installed your trickle charger.

https://forum.phoenixusarv.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=4781.0;attach=7678

The house and truck batteries are normally isolated unless the engine is running or the emergency start switch is pressed and held.  None of the rv breakers or fuses should affect the ignition switch, so the installer  may have miswired the trickle charger and created a short circuit that took out multiple fuses and or relays in both the truck and 12v house circuits.

Begin by checking the Ford ignition and starter fuses and/or relays under the hood. If you have the Ford  owners manual refer to it for the location. Then after you get the ignition switch power issue solved,  move on to the house battery power issue. Check the 200A fuse and 50A self resetting breaker that provides  12v to the battery disconnect relay which feeds the power distribution panel.
