Woohoo! Canadian border to open Aug. 9th
« on: July 19, 2021, 10:58:50 pm »
It looks like Pierre will finally let us see the grandkids!  Vaxxed Americans will be allowed in without a quarantine period on August 9th.  The first article I read sounded confusing regarding land border crossings but two other articles made no mention of land crossing restrictions.  At this time the U.S. isn't ready to reciprocate.  I'll be watching this very closely.

Last week it was supposed to open on July 21st.  My wife (CDN Citizen) went up last Thursday to see her family for the first time in over a year since the lockdown.  At the border, even though she brought all the required paperwork showing a recent Covid test and Vax info was still tested again at the border prior to be let in.  I hope they open it; however, I am not confident they will.  Seems like they just keep pushing it out . Never k ow.

For oh so many years, Canada and the USA treated each other so well when it came to border crossings.  It has been a reality check with COVID19....Canada isolating Alaska from the continental USA like that.  I wonder if Canada has become so very tight with it's borders during COVID in part from the millions of illegals that have been pouring into the USA from the south.

So true.  Well here is hoping, because Canadians, my wife family specifically, love to camp and I am anxious to go.  They may not open it up to camping for USA citizens, but we can say we are using our RV to self quarantine so to speak when we stay with family.  BWAHAHAHAHA

Ron, it's been my observation (at least in Ontario) that the government is rather generous with their LEGAL immigration and refugee policies- not so much with illegals.

Regarding COVID, that was bad political decisions.  According to our son, they didn't want to partner with the previous administration in the development of the vaccine.  They ordered their vaccines from China which didn't work so they are way behind in getting folks vaccinated.  They have been trying to round-up vax from lots of places.  At one point they received a lot of the Astra Seneca after other countries found out  about the clotting issue but didn't use it.  Now they have enough of the good stuff and are having good success getting the jab into almost 70% of the people.  That of course could be because they've been on almost full lock down since March.  The funny thing is, I got very sick up there in Dec. of 2019. My symptoms sounded much like COVID although it was unknown at that time.  By the time the antibody test was available, I was beyond the 6 mo. window.  I got the J&J only so I could cross the border.  I miss the kids!

There are a lot of Chinese owned (CCP) companies up there.  There were quite a few families coming over in Nov. and Dec. when things started getting hot in Wuhan.

I hope this doesn't sound too political.  It is just the way it is.

Despite Canada easing, US extends land border restrictions.

The United States Government is extending the closure of the land borders with Canada until at least Aug 21.

The move announced Wednesday, July 21 by the Department of Homeland Security came two days after the Canadian government announced it would begin letting fully vaccinated U.S. citizens into Canada on Aug. 9 and those from the rest of the world on Sept. 7.
