coach battery cutoff switch question - light stays on
« on: May 26, 2021, 04:25:16 pm »
The battery cutoff switch on the left side of the entry step on my 2910T stays lit all the time & when I press it to "USE" or "STORE, nothing happens, i.e., ceiling lights stay on, porch light functions, etc. & the light on the switch stays lit.  Shouldn't those types of systems go off when the switch is activated & shouldn't the light go off when the switch is changed to "USE".  On my previous coach, when I pressed the battery cutoff switch, everything in the coach turned off.  How can I check to see if this switch is functioning properly?

Thanks for your help.

Bruce

Listen for the solenoid to click when you press the switch to the off position. If it clicks but both sides measure 12v to ground it’s stuck closed.  You may be able to get the solenoid working again after a few good  taps with a hammer and screwdriver.

Any chance you are plugged into shore power when you try this? If so you are likely getting 12v to run your lights and stuff through your converter. I think the cutoff switch just disconnects the batteries from the converter/charger.
Mine is a rotary knob that directly opens the circuit. not a switch / relay setup.

I agree too.

No loud "Click" means that solenoid is stuck.  It looks something like this.

I also agree that tapping on it with a hammer can often wake it up.  Just be sure "NOT" to dent it.  If you find it, hit it, and it then works, I advise to replace it.

Not on our PC, but with our previous motorhome, that thing malfunctioned.  It got extremely hot and caught fire.  It was mounted under the hood on the fire wall and blackened the white painted firewall and nearly melted an adjacent wire harness.  The wire jacket did melt.  So keep that in-mind.

I think the OP was asking about the battery cutoff switch in the entry.
Isn't that relay you are talking about the one to charge the truck battery from the house batteries via the white switch?

Or maybe my 2552 is different? Did they used to use a switch / relay setup? Mine doesn't have the light he mentioned either.

My 2007 2350 with no slideout has two of them.  One is under the hood up front.  The other one is under the fridge behind these doors.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.  I was depressing the cutoff switch too quickly.  Also had an issue with the deep cycle batteries, which have now been changed.  All good.  Thanks for your help.
